FAQs - PlayStation 2 (JP) - Dance Dance Revolution Party Collection
DDR Party Collection was a very pleasant surprise for fans of import DDR, as it was the first home version game to be released after the home release of DDR Extreme, which many assumed would be the last DDR game in Japan. Party Collection also earned some fans by collecting several old and classic licenses along with some new and very popular Konami Originals.
Special Import InstructionsThis is a Japanese game, and if you are new to Japanese imports, you may have trouble getting started with the game. When you first boot the game, you are presented with a message in Japanese asking you if you want to create a System File for the game. Select the left option and then hit the Circle button. The next message asks if you want to enable Auto-Save. The left option ("はい") is 'Yes', the right option ("いいえ") is 'No'. Select your preference, and again hit Circle. In Japan, Circle is most frequently used to confirm selections, whereas most US publishers use Circle for canceling instead.
DDR Party Collection features an option labelled "User Support" in the Options menu. This can be used to unlock all locked content within DDRMAX, DDRMAX2, and DDR Extreme (Japanese versions only). Simply load up DDR Party Collection, insert a memory card containing a System file for one of those games, and go to User Support. Select the lefthand option ("はい") both times you receive a prompt.
Note: User Support does *not* add songs from a previous version to DDR Party Collection, nor vice versa. User Support simply unlocks whatever you have not already unlocked via regular methods.
Unlockable SongsParty Collection's unlock system is quite straight-forward compared with that of DDR Extreme. To unlock a song, play five songs, and then earn Extra Stage. The next song in the unlock list will be your Extra Stage, in x1.5 Reverse. Clear the song on Extra Stage to have it permanently unlocked.
Additionally, there are five Oni courses, two Nonstop courses, and Endless Mode to unlock.
Party Collection has a number of both approachable and difficult courses, all the way up to Ultimate12 which caps out at PARANOiA -Respect-. Nine Oni courses are available from the start, and an additional five are unlockable.
Party Collection doesn't feature many Nonstops, and most of the Nonstops are focused on the Dancemania licenses added in the game. Space Walker and NEW ARRIVAL are both unlockable. If you don't find something to like here, then there's always the custom nonstop feature.
Party Collection features all of the characters found in DDR Extreme, plus two new characters, Bus and Train. To unlock additional dancers, select your characters on the screen and play a set of songs with them. After your set is over, some of the adjacent characters will be unlocked. There are 60 characters in all.
