FAQs - Playstation2 (JP) - DDRMAX2: Dance Dance Revolution 7th Mix DDRMAX2 was the first game to feature the challenging Oni Mode in arcades, and that mode found its first home version in Japan in the release of DDRMAX2. Featuring all of the new Challenge-only songs as well as the new-to-MAX2 songs from the arcade such as Maxx Unlimited, DDRMAX2's home version release offered a never-before-seen amount of new content to the game. Special Import Instructions This is a Japanese game, and if you are new to Japanese imports, you may have trouble getting started with the game. When you first boot the game, you are presented with a message in Japanese asking you if you want to create a System File for the game. Select the left option and then hit the Circle button. The next message asks if you want to enable Auto-Save. The left option ("はい") is 'Yes', the right option ("いいえ") is 'No'. Select your preference, and again hit Circle. In Japan, Circle is most frequently used to confirm selections, whereas most US publishers use Circle for canceling instead.Game Modes
Unlockable Songs DDRMAX2 boasts one of the longest and most complicated unlocking systems in all of DDR. Fortunately, most of the game can be speed-unlocked. Similarly to the arcade release, unlocks are released by earning points playing in the normal Game Mode. Most items in the list require 80 points, and after unlocking the item, your point count will reset to zero. If two players play the game together, each will contribute points to unlocking. If Doubles is played, then the point rewards are doubled.Grade Table
Additionally, if you meet the speed unlock requirements for a particular item (for example, unlocking Jam & Marmalade by playing in Diet Mode), the songs/courses afterward are bumped up the list to take the place of the item you unlocked without points.
Additionally, there are a large number of songs which can only be unlocked by completing them within an Oni course. You don't need to actually complete the Oni course itself - just the desired song(s). To find which Oni course contains a particular song, scroll down to the Oni courses section of this FAQ. Unlocking via Oni course is the only method of unlocking the following songs:
Oni Courses In addition to the courses below, there are also user-customizeable Oni courses (Order 1, Order 2, Order 3), and the above-mentioned unlockable Random Oni.
