By: Milton Le (05/21/05) After having fans suggest bring Beatmania IIDX to America, Konami of America listens. Beatmania surprised fans, having playable E3 demos in Konami's E3 area. The game had 10 playable songs (five in 5-key mode and five in 7-key mode), although the 7-key songs had the Light-7 key variations. Even though Konami representatives, on hand, said that they were unsure if the change was final, Konami has released screenshots that have "Light 7" on them.. The only details about the game that has been released is that it will include "...more than 50 club tracks, including pop, techno, drum 'n' bass, trance and house," "two player modes that allow players to perform cooperatively or competitively," and "exclusive hits and music from some of the hottest DJs and remixers in the scene." Since this is the first Beatmania game that the US is receiving, it is being called Beatmania (instead of Beatmania IIDX). Besides the name change, nothing much is really different. The game's layout takes from Japan's Beatmania IIDX 9th style and from what we saw from the demo, there could be a spot to sort songs. Just like the Dance Dance Revolution series, the Beatmania series won't have the same songlist for the game name of the Japanese version. First Impressions The game plays exactly like the Japanese version, but unfortunately the E3 demo only had "Free Mode" available. Looking at the songlist, it's clear that the songs that were put onto the demo, weren't songs from IIDX 6th Style or higher. It isn't clear if the entire game's songlist will contain songs from 6th style or higher (or even songs from other Bemani titles), but the public has already fallen in love for it as they have with the Japanese Beatmania titles.
