I'm so torn on this one....
I love ddr...I play it 5-6 days a week.
IMO activities like hunting, and chess are NOT sports. If sitting in front of a chess board is an activity then so is surfing the net. With that being said I should mention that I do like chess, but it's a game.
Hunting is an activity that needs to go the way of the dinosaur (just an opinion). Have you ever seen some people who hunt? Fat, old, and out of shape. Hunting is NOT a sport. Again, sitting and waiting for 4 hours for an animal to walk by is in no way shape or form strenuous.
Here is what DDR definatley is: High impact, aerobic activity. Much the same definition I would give to running, or aerobics. Neither which I consider a sport.
Have I seen some DDR (dancers too) players that are in better shape then some athletes...absolutley.
I still don't think it's a sport though.
And if playing counter strike is ever considered a sport I will kill myself. |

By this logic we can conclude that all video games are sports

Let me put it this way:
If this can be considered a sport, so can games with actual physical activity, including, but not limited to, DDR. _________________

Well than, by that logic DDR is one of the best sports in the world!
Seriously, DDR is a sprt. This guy knows nothing about DDR.
LOL! I looked at the website and the poll says 82% think it IS a sport
Only 17% think otherwise!
And he uses much to harsh language. Talking to a second grader about cheerleading he actually said "even when they suck". |

Curling and DDR share more in common than you'd think.
I take that back it's one thing...but that one thing is everything in several "borderline" sports.
Precision.
Think about it, the majority of DDR tournaments are some sort of system that rewards a person for doing something as precise as possible. It's the same for other "borderline" sports like Golf, Bowling, Billiards, and Curling.
Bowling rewards players for consecutive strikes (which can get tough), billiards requires precise planning and execution, you win in golf for getting the fewest precision shots.
Curling, however is on the extreme side of precision, moreso than even golf. This is largely due the the fact the sport is based on team precision. One person aims and launches the stone while two people use their brushes to cleanse the ice and cause minor course adjustments.
So in closing, DDR is a sport. _________________

In the immortal paraphrase and alteration of Lewis Black. "Yes! DDR is a sport! If curling is an olympic sport than DDR is a a common sport. DDR should be an olympic sport because it's better than curling and if you're any good at it, you deserve a medal!"

I personally consider DDR to be a sport. If Ballroom dancing, pool, bowling, curling, golf, chess, fishing, etc. are considered sports then why not DDR? By definition, DDR is a sport.
1a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
1b. A particular form of this activity.
2. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
3. An active pastime; recreation.
Sure, DDR is a video game, but at the same time it is more than just your normal video game. Now I wouldn't expect to see coverage of tournaments on ESPN, yet it is no less a sport than most recognized sports. Some sports are just more socially accepted. Even if I was the only one who considered DDR to be a sport, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I'll just keep steppin' away and let everyone else think what they want. |

No matter which European country says that DDR is a sport, I still say that it is not.
I just see this as a videogame that gets way more props than it really should. Just because it makes you sweat, it doesn't mean that it's for the highly competitive elite. I don't think that it was made for people to compete against each other, but it's a game that was made so that people could set a goal for themselves(ex: "reaching that AAA"). If people want to outscore another person, be it on a ranking chart or the top score list, that's fine, but I just think that by doing that, they're still just treating it as a videogame than a real sport. _________________

I say that DDR is a sport. It requires both Physical and Mental fitness in order to do good, or beat your opponent. The only thing that make ppl think that DDR isn't a sport is because it uses computer generated concepts. This person , or "coach" is only a ignorant person that has one perspective and will use any information at his disposal to try and prove it even if it is completely wrong. For people who may be offended by this person, don't worry many people that are ignorant miss out on the best things in life. Also, he thinks that you have to be outside or moving around and not moving in one place.
Also how does one compare a video game such as Tony Hawk to a physically stimulating game such as DDR. There are different aspets to every game, and the unique aspect aboutBemani games is that you use your legs. I can understand how its not a game if your using your controller at home but to those who are very good players, they are probably in very good shape.
"Sports" such as basketball or baseball also require different skills, In DDR you need good endurance fast reflexes and good concentration. In basketball you need to know good angles in order to shoot the ball and in Baseball you need speed, accuracy, and concentration. As you can see, DDR is as much of a sport and anything else, it just need time so that those who are ignorant (and or possibly 100% brain-dead) to reconize the aspects of DDR

But hear how I've seen sports grow in my life.
It all started with about 5 or more Basic sports. Baseball,Basketball,Soccer,Volleyball, runing,Swiming
My fav of all Is Basketball
Anyways after years gone by I seen shows coming with tons of sports that all had a little somthing to do with one of the above sports. I bet every one must had somthing in they mind they like to see they sports they made up become a real sport we have over 1,000's of sports by now if we sade yes to every single thing that we can compet, score and work out.
As you can see now they are kids & teens wishing games to become a sport, Now that they can gave you a work out. What next food eating? Bust a move? I even once seen others typing on computers seeing who can type the best as will as speed they type at.
Anyways what I'm geting at is life is full of joy new stuff coming all the time by Smarthurmans like us who are felling or planet with new things little by little
So I say DDR can be a sport! Even let's say it's not ok I know it not known as a sport. So it's still fun to play right.
If games every do make it on tv. It don't have to be sports, Why not make a hole new network called LiveGaming, VideoGameZetwork. DDR can be one of the frist game competions on GameNetwork. For the years to come on LiveVidoeGamesNetwork. LVGNnetwork.
Welcome To LVGN News Today we have are frist new game that made this happen It DDR!!
Ok I may be out of my mind. But you never know what will happen now in days. That was just a one out of 100 more out of the blue things I can thank of that can or may never ever happen in the years to come.
So anyways I see DDR like this. It's a cool video game. It a game I can listing, dance, compet all at the same time. Unlike other cames I set on my bed and move just my fangers.
But I still paly them for the fun of it!!!
So if you like DDR keep playing it if not look around at a sport or somthing you do love. DDR is like a sport to me now in days i go in study it as if I am on a team. I almost forgot what my fav sport is it's DDR oh what that a game. Ok It's Basketball oh my I need to get bake in to that game and slow down on ddr!! Oh will at less I'm doing somthing I love |

There is a gaming channel on cable. If you don't have it you can request it. The show is called 'Arena' and they have featured DDR as one of the games used as competition. The channel is called G4 and they have now merged with TechTV. Contact your cable provider to request it if you don't already have it. _________________
