Piracy Report
Lately there has been a large increase in the piracy of DDR arcade mixes. A pirate mix which goes by "DDR Megamix" is appearing in too high a number of arcades. The NDDRA works very hard to try to decrease the amount of DDR piracy. |
You do know that technically, those "Japanese" DDR Extreme machines aren't supposed to be outside Japan in the first place without special permission (not that anyone really seems to care, but that is beside the point), yet I don't see anything in there about targeting all the bootleg DDREX machines while you are at it. Don't get me wrong, "DDR Megamix" is so bad (from the pics/vids I have seen) that it deserves to be wiped off the face of the Earth just for being that back a hack. |
We all understand this. It's just that more than 95% of players would like to get rid of the "Megamix." We know that all of the Extreme machines are technically illegal.
| figgy20000 wrote: | I noticed in the rules for your iron man competition that after a tie in the ironman competition...
n the event of a tie, the players will play Legend Road Oni course.
The song list will be The Legend of Max, Max 300, Max Unlimited, Paranoia Survivor Max (Heavy),
and Paranoia Survivor Max (Oni), in this particular order.
WTF?????? This is the dumbest rule I've ever seen in my LIFE. This wouldn't be a stamina test... this would be "The first person to fall over and DIE because they are wearing the ankle weights loses" No wonder people were getting injuries during your ironman, as far as I know no one in the world has yet to complete legend road anyways. |
This isn't even a valid point. I've seen Legend Road passed. More than five people in the US can pass it. Ironman competitions are really intense and innovative for anyone who has never seen one.
| Slowpoke wrote: | | Phrekwenci wrote: | | Why not answer the questions here instead? |
Because maybe they'd like some traffic at their site? |
We have no reason to want more traffic on our site. There is absolutely no advertising done on the site. We have limited bandwidth and must pay extra for all of the bandwidth used which is past our limit. We only lose money from this. We believe that it will give people a better opportunity to answer a wider range of questions.
| AcidBurnISU wrote: | | Laf, this is the biggest load of BS I have read in a while. A national DDR association.. that wont tell people who leads it, who the members are, how they plan to do things to support their ludacrous ideas. Enjoy failure. |
What? What you just referred us to as would be illegal. We clearly told how we would run. The ideas your thinking about are your own, not ours. Be careful what you say in the future. You can't just go calling things whatever you wish, there are laws to prevent this.
| Slowpoke wrote: | | You're making this sound way more mysterious than it is. I agree with you about the "vision" thing, but it'd make no sense for them to come here and use this as their Q&A forum, when they've already set up their own website, on which I'm sure they'd love to get tons of hits, to help show potential investors the interest and viability of their venture. |
We will say once again that we are not for profit. We don't get money for maintaining a webpage without any advertising. We won't ever have potential investors, and we won't show our number of hits or visitor data to the public.
| AcidBurnISU wrote: | | It just sounds like a hugh scam. |
No one is going to have any money stolen from them. They will pay during registration at the event. We're not just going to run off with your money and all get arrested.
| Slowpoke wrote: | | Could be, but since they're not reaching into your pockets (just yet), why not show a little courtesy on the chance that these guys are actually trying to do something positive for the community? |
I like this quote, it makes a lot of sense. Remember we have the right to ban anyone from our events. Try to show some respect.
| Rickidi wrote: | I like this idea. Ok I live in Canada, but still.
btw, yes someone did complete Legend Road. I just want to point out that the order is wrong though, and it's not PSM, it's sakura. |
Even though our name says "National" you may still come from out of the country. Everyone still needs to show photo ID though, even if you're from the US.
Sorry about the confusion. The order was the order of the song list to be played for Ironman, not the song list of Legend Road. Legend Road will only be played if there is a tie (which is rare) though.
| Dance_More wrote: | | hmmm...this is a good idea but i think it's gonna flop. There's just too much stuff that people aren't sure about with the NDDRA. But I've got some questions to ask before I become interested. First, why are your members so secretive? I mean if you wanna be a big national DDR thing then people are gonna have to know who you are anyway. Second, are you going to run state competitions in every state? Oh and who are some of sponsors? I think you should try and get some big name companies to sponsor you like Red Octane (they sponsor stuff don't they?) |
First, I'm not so sure why the members are so secretive. I'm not in charge here though. State Rankings will be run in as many states willing to participate. Our database and system aren't completely done at this time. We can get big name companies to sponsor us, but we must run a tournament first. They can't agree to just sponsor the whole NDDRA because if we flop, then it will give a hit to their big name. Sponsors can usually risk sponsoring a single tournament though, but to sponsor the whole NDDRA before they know how we will do is too risky for them.

Also, I kinda find it interesting that you place particular emphasis on 1st and 2nd generation players when DDR didn't really make a huge impact on the East Coast til probably about 3rd-4th Mix. |
Many people have asked about the ankle weights. Our rules say they are only for the Ironman competitions. They are not for Singles and Doubles PA. That wouldn't be a very smart rule.
About the whole generation thing, we just kind of split players into four generations. People all see the generations slightly different from one another. It's kind of hard to explain this. Some people view 3rd and 4th Mix as 1st and 2nd generation, while some may not. We were simply referring to the earlier players.

PHEAR THE INQUISITIVE MEGAPOWERS OF THE PHREK! PHEAR IT YOU ALL!!!
Okay... i really think you guys are fools. Lets face the facts... DDR has been under the radar ever since most of us n00bs (and by n00bs i mean those who never played 5th mix) had started playing. In this time, DDR hasnt really grown anywhere. No company has truly taken a great look at DDR and said...
"eh! that game gots potentials. we gots to gets our 'ands on somma that possible cash!"
No! Has not happened yet? We therefore need not worry about scams because there is basically no profit in scamming a game that is unknown to business men! SO STFU! NDDRA ARE NOT ENEMIES FOR CRYING-OUT-LOUD!
Now.... i assume you will all shut up and let these people who have a dream to escalate DDR to an organized status for goals other than profit making carry out their task seeing as DDRFREAK are unable to do this (with good reason i presume). I trust you f**kers all understand that we do not have anything to loose just because of a mere secluded administrators.

Thanks for being positive.
People should not just instantly jump to conclusions over all of this. The only companies that would ever profit from us would be our sponsors, just as they get recognition from all tournaments which they sponsor.
The whole scam idea was really weird. Running this will already be really risky. Actually, running any tournament has a risk of loss of money. It's not easy to get sponsors, especially for the drinks and energy bars. If we can't secure sponsors for those items, all of the money will be coming out of our own pockets. The good thing is we all evenly distribute costs between us, but it can still be expensive.
Also, we would like your input. Would you actually be interested in participating in the state rankings? The fees for all entrants would be $10 flat. There wouldn't be any prizes (we will still provide free drinks and energy bars). It really depends, the idea is really cool but not all may like it. What do you all think?

This, has not been committed, since internet message boards are not subject to laws unless death threats happen. I stated my opinion, if you don't like it, frick it. Heres another opinion, this idea is doomed to failure beacuse of the massive scale you want to take it to, and not being known isn't helping. It sounds like you got together with your friends and said "lets just start a tournament assoc," with no idea what it would take at all. Congrats on your failure. |

Not really. We're not an association, that's what we meant. If we were an association we would be illegal.
We stated earlier that taking DDR to a large degree could bring harm to it instead of helping it. You're not understanding what we are doing here.
Let me emphasize something...
There are some large tournaments out there, but they always fail to get some of the most important aspects of the tournament correct. For example, there are some great tournaments but after the tournament is over the tournament runners seem to not take the extra steps. They won't pay the money to post all of the videos and pictures online. Many don't even post up the brackets, full results, and afterthoughts. Another example would be not putting the deserved priority into their competitors. Most tournament charge for water or don't even supply it at all. People are going to need to drink during a tournament, drinks and water should always be a supplied for free.
This is what the NDDRA wants to fix. Some people may be viewing us to too high a degree. We're not going to suddenly run tournaments every month. What you can expect from us is quality. We are improving DDR, not over promoting it to its death.
Tell you guys what, if you don't like us, you don't have to be part of us. We're not going to change the way DDR is for you, so you don't have to worry about us. You don't have to join our events. It's your choice, we're not disrupting your life.

In general, this seems like a good idea, and, assuming this is legit (it is the internet and all, no offense to you guys) I hope it turns out for the best.
On the topic of funds, you may want to run an ad once and a while for money for bandwidth and such. However, doing so may lead the public into thinking that this organization is for profit, but it would keep the costs down. You may even be able to set up something with your host and another company so that they advertise on your site and pay directly to the hosting company for a percentage of the bandwidth (which would eliminate people thinking it is for profit), though that's not very probable. It might be a good idea to sell something at the tournaments (or even going to the extent of a small entry fee to cover the costs of water, equipment, etcetera) but, once again, that might make people think it's for profit. Personally though, I'd be glad to pay a ten dollar or so entry fee and buy some stuff if it meant we got more tournaments over here. Because we haven't really had any good tournaments recently (that I've been made aware of) in Virginia and I -and I'm sure a lot of other people - would welcome tournaments when we wouldn't otherwise get some.
On the topic of Ironman tournaments, I'm really not sure about this because it just sounds useless. And Legend Road oni course is extreme (not only due to the pie factor but because of the oni scoring); you should use something like a seven-eight footer reverse 2x or something.
Something else I personally would like to see would be a mod competition (eg. pick practical mods out of a hat for a random song and use score for judging - as opposed to PA)
But this sounds like a pretty cool idea. I know I'll be watching it. |

That is a good point. We talked about advertising to cover costs, but all came to the unanimous decision to not advertise. Our main concern about bandwidth and space is hosting the videos. We currently only have 2 GB to host everything on. We do have an additional 200 GB but are concerned that if we set up a server using this, the download speeds would be a lot slower.

We do have plans to sell items at our events to help pay for them. About the Ironman competitions, you really have to experience one to appreciate it. I have only seen one (didn't enter though) and really enjoyed it. Also, Legend Road will only be if there is a tie (extremely unlikely). No one will be able to pass the course, anyways. It is almost impossible to do after completing PA and the whole Ironman course. If there is a tie, we take the number of perfects in Legend Road, not the oni scoring.
By the way, I used to live in Virginia. You can expect me to want to push for a tournament there.

That makes sense too.

If you're talking about the play videos, you should just put up first place in each category for each tournament and sell the rest on dvds to cover costs.

Sell Para Para stuff and I will love you forever.

I figured that, so I'm going to stay undecided about it.

Like, for the actual tournament, or the tiebreaker?
EDIT2: Your flash intro is oddly generic "fill-in-the-blanks-on-a-template" looking.

No matter how unlikely this seems surely we cannot just disregard it all together. If these guys (no matter how mysterious...which is strange I admit) want to help then let them try I say. Should one of there events ever get near Paducah KY. I'd gladly enter. _________________

We will sell a wide variety of Bemani-related merchandise. Para Para is kind of rare, but we'll see if we find anything.

That song list is for the actual Ironman tournament.
I have to agree with you, the flash video is generic. That is only temporary though. We will try to create a better one, actually related to DDR.
Sorry, but we don't have any plans for standard tournaments. As for freestyle, well, as of now we aren't planning to place a freestyle division in our tournaments. We did have talks about having a large freestyle-only competition twice a year, but that is not confirmed.
Edit- I changed the flash intro (the new one is not better) just for some variety until we get a decent one. |

| My main question is, how in the hell do you think you will be getting funds for this? Supplying water/gatorade/powerbars to the tournament, thats frick expensive, not to mention the venues, prizes and all the other things. I don't think you realize the full aspect of how much this will cost you. I will, however, believe it when I see that you actually have a lot of sponsers that are willing to donate good prizes and such. |

I have an inquiry. I want to know how long this NDDRA has been playing not just DDR, but other bemani games. What other bemani games do you fellows like? Have you entered any tournaments, and if so, what placing have you had? Besides that, I'd just like to see some background information on this NDDRA. _________________

Sorry, we never really discussed what we were going to use. Our main way of scoring the PA was by the number of Perfects, so I assumed thta was what would be done with the Ironman. We'll announce how we will score the tiebreaker in Ironman at the announcement of a tournament.
We would like to bring this over to the West Coast. For now our first tournaments will be on the East Coast, but it is a possibility.

We know how much running a large tournnament will cost. Supplying water/gatorade/powerbars is not really that expensive. The price of supplying those won't be above $200.
The reason why we set registration to last only three weeks, is because we need to show our sponsors a very accurate count of the number of people attending the event. Many times estimating can be very off from the actual number of contestants.

Well, the NDDRA consists of seven people. I have been playing DDR for maybe a year and half (could be a little more or a little less). This is the same for another member. Two other members have been playing for about a year. Some of our members don't play, but we have them because of their skill at running such events. I have entered a few tournaments. I never place that well, but I've always gotten top 8.
None of us play other Bemani games. I am greatly interested in Beatmania IIDX and Pop N' Music, but have hardly played these games.
