Alright, here's the deal. My RedOctane adapter's picky. Before it, I got a PS2 to USB adapter from RadioShack because I wanted to try it anyways just to see if it'd work. It was clumsy, to say the least. My Cobalt Flux worked with it, but not well at all. I'd hit an arrow, and sometimes it'd go off around the time I hit it, sometimes it'd go off a second later, and sometimes it wouldn't go off altogether. And don't even get me started on holds and jumps. So I took it back and ordered a RedOctane Universal Adapter that converts PS2 to USB/Xbox/Gamecube(lol). I received it a few days ago, and I've been going crazy trying to figure out what's wrong. I only have one playstation 2 controller(came with system), but it's messed up anyways so it didn't surprise me when I was testing it with the PC and adapter and all the buttons were spaztically going off.

However, no matter what I do, it does not work with my Cobalt Flux. Yes, I installed the driver on the computer(which runs Windows XP, by the way), and no matter what mode, auto or dance, no matter what if I hold down up select and start or not, and no matter what simulator or even the properties I use, NOTHING goes off with it. I've tested it on Mac OS X as well, and have the same issue. The computer detects it and stepmania detects it, but I'm not having any luck. Originally I thought this meant the adapter must be faulty, but a few hours ago I went ahead and tried plugging in my Pump It Up PS2 pad just to see what would happen.. to my astonishment, the pad works with the computer without a hitch, no issues whatsoever, perfect accuracy. How could a $20 pad that came with a game work with an adapter while a $300 pad can't? So now I don't think the adapter's to blame at all and I'm totally lost as to what the problem is.

If it matters, this computer has Windows XP Service Pack 1 installed on it. Still, if it were the computer, wouldn't the Mac OS X work without a hitch? Since the driver only supports windows, I didn't install a driver on the Mac since it wouldn't work. So, I'm at a loss. I would've posted this in the adapter questions sticky, but this isn't so much a question as a troubleshooting and the last person to even reply on that topic was on the 9th.

Very sorry to hear about your situation. It sounds frustrating.

Have you checked out the "Converter Compatibility v2 (slight edit 7/14/06)" sticky topic on Cobalt Flux's discussion board?

The RedOctane universal adapter worked for people when it first came out. It seems that it only works for certain people's CF c-box versions though, and other's not, so it's not really recommended. Newer versions reportedly don't work. Stay away unless you have an older pad, and even still, your pad may be too old.

You might want to send the Red Octane converters back and purchase:

Trio Linker Plus (USB): Tested to work great on newer c-box versions. Older ones worked fine also, good solution.

From the topic you sent me I read the second page and found that one guy said using a multitap made it work fine for him. I happen to have one, so I'll be trying it later to see if it works before I go off and send it away to order a different one. I'd rather not make my own if it can be helped.. I am not exactly a soldering expert, hehe.

EDIT: Okay, so it works with the multitap. For a while, I had weird sync issues, but I turned off V-sync. The only issue I'm having now is it can't do two buttons at once. So I do the up+start+select combo for three seconds.. and for some reason the up and down arrows are suddenly also back and start. The key config doesn't say this, the input test doesn't see it any different, but hitting up or down also causes it to start or stop. Hmm. I've read of the whole three button input, but I've yet to find anything about anyone having this type of issue after doing the command.

EDIT 2: Silly me, I forgot that doing the combination switches to buttons and forgot to reconfig. All's well now - thread may be locked. E7.gif
