Ok im the one that had experiece with this one... aka 421. let me tell you the story cause i believe this is how it should be handled

my roommate and i are playing ddr and there is a knock on the door, he opens it cause im playing
girl-do you know who i am
i look over as the songs ends- ummm no
girl-you dont wanna know
me-ok then later
girl-im the person who lives under you
me-i didnt want to know
girl-we just came home and all we hear is pounding and we want to go to bed
me-ok (selecting next song)
she leaves
a few minutes later theres another knock on the door but we actually did stop playing after that
public safty officer-we have a noise complaint, somebody said they asked you to stop and you wouldnt
me-well were not doing anything and they never said anything to us about stopping
officer-oh ok then well have a good night
me-thanks bye

keep in mind the girl was very doggy and a little drunk... and thats how you handle it

it happened once that my neighbors from downstairs came up and ask what the noise was, i think since she knows i play the piano, she tried to be nice or somethin. it wasn't me who made the noise though. It's actually my friend who was new at the game and i was only on higher level of light mode playing ultramix 2. So we stopped for about 10-15 min. then i was like "screw this! we need to play or we got nuttin to do!" so we resumed playing again and i told my friend to not step too hard, although he still couldn't control it. but i heard no complaints after that. o_O

and my neighbors downstairs play Latino Music near the midnight, which is annoying as hell since i mostly listen to japanese Rock/Metal music. and jpop.

Haha, those were some pretty good stories/advice. I'm not sure if the noise they hear is the floor/walls shaking from the pounding or the loud clacking noise a metal pad makes when you hit the arrows, especially with shoes. Anyone who has a CF knows what I'm talking about. I was playing for a week everyday on a soft pad with no problems before I got my CF.. The floor and walls would sometimes shake, but they seemed pretty solid. Then when I got my CF, the shaking was even less than with a soft pad, but that loud clacking noise was a new problem. The 2nd say I had it I got the complaint. I thing I will just have to go with an ignition or mod my soft pad and pray that the pounding won't be too bad.

I live in the upper floor of a dormitory...luckily for me though the floors here are crazy solid. I was playing Max300 heavy earlier and they didn't shake at all. Good luck with that...but I think you should just get your neighbor hooked.

Wow, I envy you. What kind of pad were you using?

First floor apartments are ideal, but sometimes one really doesn't get a choice.

Ask them when the best times to play would be... and stick to that if they give times. This is similar to what someone would do when playing a loud musical instrument such as trombone, trumpet, or drums.

If they won't give any times and say don't play period... then I guess they are total jerks and playing DDR using the controller only is the last option.

Insisting on just playing in spite of their complaints and making them deal with it could very well result in an eventual eviction.

Even with socks, I think the tapping noise is still too loud on my metal pad. Well I started playing on my soft pad again and have no complaints yet. The darn thing slides all over the place though. I sure wish I could play on my CF considering I just bought it. I guess I'll just have to wait until I move out.

I doubt it, if you're playing on a CF or a modded soft pad with wood I don't think it would affect it as long as the bottom is hard.
