Does anyone know where I can find Kick It Up! or another kind of PIU simulator? And yes, I do realize that you can do PIU on Stepmania, so in that case... Where can I find stepfiles for songs that are originally in PIU? _________________

Stepmania is indeed an excellent PumpItUp simulator, the only one you need. Unfortunately, it would be illegal to post links here to any simfile download sites, so you'll have to do a bit of work on your own. PIU simfiles are harder to find than DDR simfiles, but they're out there. You probably won't find a lot on the web because of legal issues (I know of one site with about 125 official PIU simfiles, and other sites with many fan-made PIU steps for other songs, but that's about it), but filesharing networks are in a better situation.
Also, Stepmania will automatically convert DDR steps into PIU steps (and vice versa), and although converted steps are generally not going to be as good as hand-crafted steps, it's still a nice feature. You can play your entire song collection in either Dance mode or Pump mode regardless of what style the stepfiles are written in thanks to the (pretty good) automatic conversion. |

Oh, well, in that case.
First stop:
http://www.pumptheprex.net/rolas/
The site's in Spanish, but you shouldn't have any problems; the only links you need to take note of are the numbered links (1-17) close to the top that take you to the 17 pages of songs. There are stepfiles for about 125 total songs.
I'm totally confused about the various versions of PIU so I can't tell you exactly what versions are covered, although looking at the directories that the step files are stored in, they seem to be divided into 4 sets: Prex3, Rebirth, Exceed, and "olds". I know the first three are PIU versions, and I guess the songs in the "olds" directory are from older mixes.
Next stop:
http://crazydoubles.com/
It's down at the moment (or for good), but it had a ton of PIU stepfiles for Stepmania -- some I recognize as official PIU songs, some are fan-made PIU steps for DDR songs, and some are fan-made PIU steps for third-party songs (including Missy Elliot and Blink 182, if you're into that sort of thing).
Next stop:
eDonkey / Overnet filesharing network. You'll need to download a client like eDonkey (http://www.edonkey2000.com/) or eMule (http://www.emule-project.net/). Once you're on the network, start searching. Searches for "Stepmania", "PumpItUp", and ".smzip" (the Stepmania package format) will return a lot of stuff. I found the following stepfile packages directly on eDonkey:
Pump It Up the 1st Dance Floor
Pump It Up the 2nd Dance Floor
Pump It Up the 5th Dance Floor
Pump It Up the International 3rd Dance Floor - The Premiere 3
Pump It Up the International 1st Dance Floor - The Premiere (Brazil)
Pump It Up the 5th Dance Floor - The Perfect Collection
Pump It Up the 4th Dance Floor - The Season Evolution
There's also a gigantic archive of stepfiles (1400 songs) available on eDonkey that's also available via Bit Torrent. In addition to just about everything DDR-related and a lot of originals, it contained the following PIU directories:
Pump It Up Premiere
Pump It Up The 1st Dance Floor
Pump It Up The 2nd Dance Floor
Pump It Up The 3rd Dance Floor
Pump It Up The 8th Dance Floor
I attempted to download that huge archive from eDonkey but it was way too slow, but fortunately I found a .torrent for it and downloaded it from Bit Torrent in just a few days.
So that's what I've found so far. Does anybody have a definitive list of PumpItUp versions (similar to DDRFreak's list of DDR versions) so I can get a better idea of what I'm dealing with here? I'm very confused by all these different names & version numbers. |

First off, if you really want a Pump simulator, I strongly do NOT suggest Stepmania. It never felt the same to me, and the scoring isn't Pump style either.
You'd be better off getting Kick It Up.
(It's also a lot easier to run IMO.)
I believe http://pumptheprex.iefactory.com has all the files you could ever want for getting the program running, as well as a ton of official simfiles.
Original KSF files can be found at many places, but here's a good start:
http://www.pumpmdq.com
PumpHaven was ground central, but they're down for the time being.
Hope that helps. |

The simfile download links on Pumptheprex.net all work for me... if you don't get prompted to download the zip file when you click on them, try right clicking on the link and selecting "Save As..." or try it with a different web browser or from another computer. I just checked all the links on the first page of simfiles and they're working.
The files on that site are in .ksf format so they'll work with either Stepmania or Kick It Up. |
