I was trying to PM ×Ö¸× ×©×Ö¶× ×Ö±×Ö¹×Ö´×× something when I noticed a problem. Whenever anyone here uses unicode in their name (like my Matsuri symbol, which is decimal 31085 for those who are curious ç¥), it actually spells out the "祭" part for every single unicode item. What ends up happening is that eventually, no more of the &# stuff can be put in because there is a name limit, and the unicode items can't be left alone as such because DDRFreak in general forces a default of Western ISO-8859-1.
Is there any chance that this can be fixed in the near future? _________________

There are a few other parts of the message boards that have this problem. Try to find someone quoting King of all Cosmos's new name; the qote box displays his name inproperly.

Haha, I know some where VxJasonxV is going to come out and say that it'll be fixed in Php 2.2 or whatever it was called. _________________

Yeah, someone needs to fix the web server config so that it doesn't force the charset to UTF-8. I'll bug blue^ about it next time I talk to him. |

Umm...it forces it to Western ISO-8859-1, not UTF-8. _________________

I'm afraid that not everything is fixed.
I still can't PM ×Ö¸× ×©×Ö¶× ×Ö±×Ö¹×Ö´×× here; it converts everything to &#####; notation still. _________________

But the PM still goes through. Just send it anyway.
As a note - I fixed a phpBB issue a while back which you would have encountered if the fix wasn't in place. Basically, if you sent a PM to a non-existant username, the PM would appear to go through, but it wouldn't actually show up in your outbox, and obviously nobody would get it.
So, basically, if the Unicode PM fix had not yet been put in place, you could send the PM and you would get an "Unknown user" error message. The fact that you do not, and that your PM shows up in your outbox, proves that it works. _________________

I actually receive the Unknown User message when sending to him though...sorry I forgot to put that in PM. _________________

If I simply boost the size of the field, it should be a satisfactory workaround.
EDIT: I put the fix in. It should be up within the hour. _________________

I clicked on "Tools->Page Info" and lo and behold the encoding was UTF-8! I hear a chorus of angels singing "Hallelujah!" (Or maybe that's just the game of Toejam and Earl that keeps going through my head. The old Genesis one... a true masterpiece of fun.) _________________

I also confirmed that the PMs worked...×Ö¸× ×©×Ö¶× ×Ö±×Ö¹×Ö´×× got his from me.
Now if only I knew why this Red Hat workstation I'm right now on won't display the nikudim (the dots and dashes and stuff) under the letters like they should...but that's probably an OS problem and not a DDRFreak problem.
I think we can close this case. _________________
