Welcome to NetBus.
You have a Trojan Horse in your system.
Update your virus definition files, and run a virus scan. _________________

same here. on my computer at home it's not noticeable, but on this slower one.... ARGGGHHHH!!! It takes me forever just to close a browser window even! Good lord Flash can be so annoying.
I know with Mozilla Firebird you can block all images from specific servers, but I'm using IE on this computer... and I don't think the image block on Mozilla Firebird applies to .swf files, anyways. I found the URL that the ad banner is originating from and tried adding the domain to "blocked sites" in IE, but they're still getting through. Blah. Is there anyway to block Flash animations? (aside from uninstalling Flash Player, I suppose) _________________

Syxx wrote: | Ugh, that stupid new Vonage banner slows my computer down so much. Can't you just get a gif banner or something... geez. | It's not DDRFreak's to control. They can complain, but ultimately, it's the ad hosting company that has to shut it down. The ad hosting company isn't doing it specifically, so much as they have advertisers that try to bend/break the rules all the time. Go to your Internet cache and find the offending .swf file, find out what URL it came from, and put that host in your /etc/hosts file. It's pretty easy to figure out. _________________

That site performs a free virus scan to your computer. It's very good, and safe to use. It found 4 viruses on my computer, 3 of which were trojans. _________________

/etc/hosts isn't a windows file. And IE doesn't run under Linux.
(Well, you may be able to WINE it but... why would you try? ) _________________

Fair enough, but /etc/hosts isn't a valid filename on windows so it has to be a *NIX os he was talking about.
But otherwise you are right: there is a hosts file on windows and it is the same as the *nix one in just about every other way. _________________

%WINDIR%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts is what I meant. Yeah, I knew it was in Windows, and I've used Windows a lot more than Linux, but I'm just used to referring to it as /etc/hosts in the Linux fashion. _________________

I usually don't b*tch about ads, but could someone at DDRFreak.com PLEASE kill the netpal ads? Not only does it do a repeated pop-up (closing the popup respawns it immediately) but it is trying to do a drive-by install as well!
EDIT: Doh, I think it was the site itself that was doing that, it spawns crap when you just pass your mouse over the friggen banner! Still, I detest that kind of ad. Other ads are OK, hell I even click on them a few times each visit to give the site a few cents... |

I began using Firefox a week ago... it works great, indeed... but I just got that pop-up
seems like Firefox is not really a 100% solution _________________

No pop-up blocker works 100%, unless it just entirely blocks EVERY SINGLE new windows instance. Which some do, which is dumb.
Firefox attempts to block unrequested pop-up windows. Sometimes it blocks those that you requested, most of the time it doesn't.
It's a very nice little program *pets*. _________________

Can someone do anything about the "Free emoticon icons in your email!" ads? I've never gotten pop up ads in DDR Freak, but this one constantly appears when I visit the main page. In fact, it popped up when I visited the main page just now which is why I'm adressing the situation.
It's a small flash animation, so I don't know if it has a URL or not... |

I just got a Netpal Games pop-up at the front page, followed closely by one of those "Do you want to install and run some random crap" windows from the same company. _________________

This Netpal pop-up is triggered by mousing-over their banner ad. No click needed. |

I'm starting to get File Download popup with each page I go to.
htm.htm is the file name
www.achtungachtung.com is where it's from.
This is really really annoying....
It is accompanying that My Sound Works banner. _________________

It's most likely caused by some adware, spyware, or virus from your computer. As of now, we don't have any popups, file downloads, or anything on DDR Freak ads. _________________
