There is nothing wrong with playing video games. In Japan, it is far more socially acceptable than in America. Salarymen in their 30s and 40s play fighting games for hours on end and noone bats an eye. In America, they would be shunned and laughed at (or scorned), but here, their obsession is accepted and even embraced on some levels. If you haven't experienced it admidst both cultures, you won't understand. I so hate the "oppressive" attitude that some people have saying "*this* is what you should do and *that* is not socially acceptable". I will do as I please (within bounds of law), and if someone doesn't like it, then that's just too bad. They aren't going to stop me. |
There's a reason people in their 40s playing video games compulsively are seen as weird.
And its because they're freaking weird.
The end. |
Yeah, that's being pretty close-minded.
My mom is 50 and still enjoys Final Fantasy/Zelda/Mario Kart/and sometimes her and I play DDR on controller at home. My dad still plays video games on the computer, and sometimes PS2. _________________

If they play hours daily (and that's what we're talking about, there's a difference between drinking a cup of coffee once in a while and smoking crack every 15 minutes for 72 hours straight) then you have weird parents and they shoul either get jobs or spend more time at their jobs.
I don't expect my opinion to be shared here, because going on ddrfreak and saying 40 year olds playing video games compulsively is weird is like going on a pedophile forum and saying "I'm starting to think raping little boys isn't a good idea". |

Whoever said 40-year-olds playing video games are weird is retarded.
I'm 28. I grew up in the Atari/NES era. In 12 years, my entire generation is still going to be playing video games. Is that weird? My dad used to play Pitfall and River Raid and Ms. Pac Man with me when I was little. He even had all of Pitfall mapped out, and he was obsessed with Tetris. Is that weird? I guess it is, because only little kids are allowed to have fun, right? Adults should just work all the time, and when they do have free time, they should just play golf and tennis and other socially acceptable things for adults to do.

Grow up. | Sorry, dude. I think he's right. The cut off for video games is actually 21. Once you turn 21 the only way to have fun is drinking in bars. Between the ages of 23 and 27, you have to club (while drinking), and from 28 - 37, you can only go to coffee shops at the end of your 45 hour week (with no overtime pay). From 38 - 55 it's back to the bars where you have drunken mid-life crises on a daily basis until you die from liver failure. That's why our parents always told us to "enjoy these years." They knew the rules about what we weren't and weren't allowed to do when we grew up. I'm a little disappointed though, I only get to play DDR for two more years. I'll also have to uninstall all my computer games. *cries*

There's nothing wrong with you playing golf. I never said there was. I think it's awesome, and I love golf myself. My point was, you should be able to pursue whatever hobbies you like, and who cares what age you are.
I'm just tired of people implying that I'm somehow immature because I'm 28 and I play video games. I don't see how it's any different than going to a movie or watching TV. |

Funny how people can see playing video games as weird. A lot of video games on PS2 and X Box are actually geared towards adult players.
As far as social stereo types go, whenever I play DDR at the arcade and talk to other players/watchers, if the subject of age comes up I like to make people guess my age. They always deduct 6-8 years of my actual age when they are guessing.
So as long as playing DDR makes me appear younger it's all good! _________________

Kind of funny how this's branched off from "OMG CAN U AA CAPT JACK HEAVY" to "OMG VIDEOGAMEZ R 4 KIDSZ!!"
Anyway, for the first topic: Yes. I've AAed it. Once, though. It's a pretty hard song, even compared to 9-foot songs of today.
For the second topic: So what if 40-year old businessmen play videogames? If there's a game that interests people, and skill and dedication is needed to play, then by god, people should practice that game. _________________

might stir up some dust by saying this but i actually don't think that captain jack is that hard of a song on heavy, and i have AA'd it.
that might just be because of one of these things though:
1. i have no life
2. i play that song at least once every game i play at the arcade (on machines that have it )
3. i have memorized the first 2/3 of the song
4. i have no life
5. some combination fo the above |

With a user name like that I think we can ALL assume that.
Don't take that as an offense...I have no life either.
But it's not because of DDR.
This thread belongs in hell now that the question has been answered a mere 5,000 times. Or maybe he didnt get his answer...Hmmmm _________________

gah, i would never take offense at something as trivial as what some random person thinks of my life or lack thereof. hell, i dont give a damn what my closest friends think about me.
i'm damn proud of having no life outside of ddr, i'm the leader/founder of my towns ddr following (cult???)
if it weren't for me, none but like 3 people in my town would play ddr, now there are at least 50-100, i'm a very influental person despite my lack of a life. i live through ddr and it lives through me, i am the living embodiement of ddr basically, well, maybe not but i'm close

Hmmmm.....I've never thought of that. But let's not get off topic shall we?
So basically to close this up. CJ is a song you are able to AAA, AA, and A. It is also possible to get an AAAA. (For stepmania users) _________________
