An awards show on Spike TV: nothing but a huge advertisement for Grand Theft Auto or any other "thuggin" game. Spike TV sucks, though, Most Extreme Eliminations is right up there with Whose Line is it Anyway for absolute funny.

"Star Trek: The Next Generation" is on Spike now, does that mean it's a manly man's show now? erm.gif

No, it means that Spike definately doesn't know what to give to their audience, and that it'll go bankrupt in 10 years tops.

I personally didn't watch it... but I've been on three gaming forums, and all of them have a thread devoted to how horrible this awards show was. Does that mean it really sucked. Damn straight. This was an insult to the video gamers everywhere. Anyone who agreed with more than three of these categories does not deserved to be called a gamer.

And this is all coming from what I've heard. Just think about what I'd be saying if I'd actually wasted 2 hours of my life and watched this.

The reason DDR didn't win is just because... Apparently no "men" wanna dance like a fool to japanese "crap" and crazy techno stuff.

Look at this horrible MSPaint made pie chart:

It's SO BAD!

And Def Jam was pretty good, too. But you can't judge games from last year, to this year. In other awards, they have a cutoff point. If Spike had a cutoff point (witch i don't think they did), then how did Halo get in there?
BTW, i didn't find halo to be the greatest game.

I agree with everyone. That was a huge commercial.

And also, I read ever since Spike TV has advertised TV for Men, their target Age group, 18-32 or somethin males have gone down 35%! It makes me laugh!

Spike TV = The Redneck Channel...

I doubt they'd understand anything other than football and wrestling...let alone video game genres at all...(wrestling != fighting)

Spike TV used to been The National Network, which used to been The Nashville Network.

And thank god I didn't waste my time on this. I have minimum service on cable that doesn't have Spike TV.

Man the VGA was stupid, because Madden 2004 won best game of the year. I think the people who picked the winners were on crack when they picked the games. I'm never going to watch the VGA ever again. If we got to pick the winning games, it would be a hell of a lot better then what is right now.

I think we should start are own VGA awards.

acctually they did announce nominees like a week or two before the show......i think they were part of an unscheduled show cuz i wanted to watch something else, but they had that on, but i only watched a few minutes.....right after they nominated GTA3 for "best graphics in a game"......i just couldn't watch anymore and i'd figure the actual show wouldn't be too promising either disturb.gif ....

I realized DDR music isn't my thing. I won't say it's crap because people like it. Most of it isn't very good music in my opinion. I used to like the music a lot because i directly related the game I loved to the music that accompanied it. I listen to a radio show almost every night, and I like all of the songs they use to introduce the show back after every commercial break. They use a lot of rap, sometimes just the instrumental part of the rap song. BUT I HATE RAP. I'm directly associating the songs that they use to the songs that I hear that signals the return of my radio show.

It's like when you're about to feed a hamster and it hears you scooping their food out of the bag they get all excited.

Being a metalhead myself devil.gif , I will give you my observationist theory into explaining this phenomena:

    1) The rap world, IMHO, has made a grand and colossal cultural blitz this year, thus spreading their culture farther beyond the confines of the city and the surrounding suburbs. This would explain why almost half of the number one hits this year are comprised of rap songs.

    2) Rap music is currently the most profitable music right now. At a time where our economy is in shambles, advertisers are trying to find new ways to rake in dollars. They found their answer in the rap culture. By offering them hip-hop samples in radio shows or whatever is mainstreamed in this nation, this would draw more listeners, thus generate green for sponsors and advertisers. A good example of this trend would have to be Mc'Donalds "I'm Loving It" ad campaign. What startled me about it was when they introduced their Monopoly game, in the commercials, they show a person with various maxed out luxuries while hip-hop beats were playing in the background. This further proves my point in that marketers are only using the rap culture to generate secure money.

To sum it all up, rap music and it's culture sells, which puts a strain on it's secondary mainstream culture, rock and heavy metal frown.gif .

Let's sum it up this way:

If an awards show immediately announces its top overall winner at the beginning of the show, before it even starts, then you know something is very, very wrong.

I noticed something about the winners. Most of the games that won were American games and only three of the winners were Japanese games. To me, that sounds a tad suspicious E19.gif .

My excuse was that the winning games had titles the award's creators could understand, but when Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne (all one syllable words) didn't win Action Game of the Year, that excuse sorta fell flat on it's face. When Enter the Matrix won and the developers stood up, I was literally yelling at my TV 'SIT BACK DOWN! YOUR GAME SUCKED ASS AND YOU KNOW IT!'

I would have been more happy if Initial D got the best music award instead of that stupid Def Jam Wrestling game I mean they only picked it cause of the rappers that were sponsering the stupid awards disgust.gif

I think it's best to keep awards "AWAY" from TV networks and only be kept by gaming magazines, unless a TV is willing to let Gaming Magazines host a "REAL" VGA instead of this crap disturb.gif

If only it were true. Hopefully, the videogame magazine companies will get into television, like GSN(cliched and low budget but it's a start). disgust.gif
