Tch! I was never shy, I love the spotlight E13.gif

If you have to find someone to play with you. Bring a friend. Or if you're greedy like me you know your friends just get in the way. You have to let em pick songs and if they wanna go home early... devil.gif erm.gif riiight.gif

Yes, but just play, just make sure you look cool while doing it E1.gif
Always play naturally, and one thing that I've noticed that can distinguish a lame or dorky looking person playing DDR is the way they move their arms.

If you flail your arms like an idiot, or leave them stiff at your side, then you must really not care what people think. Play your best but make sure you look good too.. biggrin.gif

::sigh:: yeah. I get shy on the machine too. I remember playing on a cruise back in June. I'd only play late at night, around 3ish.. because I didn't want anyone other than the drunken teens around. I was also not good then. But anyways.. I wanted to be able to practice on my own. That's why I'm finally gonna get it for my house.. happy.gif... hopefully someday i'll be happy how I dance.. e_e

Don't think about the other people gathering around you because you are probably very good! E4.gif

I noticed whenever I play DDR at the arcade, I get really shy to actually get up on the stage and play. Mainly because of my not-so-l33t moves. blink.gif What's a good way to raise my confidence so I wont feel so shy? I know this is a stupid topic, but my shyness is driving me crazy.

...shyness is a genetic trait...if you try to break your shyness you will unwind the very fabrics your made of...then while on Butterflly (light) you will slowly begin to feel hot, especially around your ears...then you'll begin to feel "paranoid" and think that everybody is looking at you...you'll begin to feel kind of sweaty and tired (but actually its your internal bodily functions trying to make you stop) usually, you just get a lifelong nervous tick, but in Japan it is a known fact that ddr players internally combust...

When I first started playing DDR, I was always extremely nervous. Luckily, I was always with my friend (he's the one that got me into it), so things weren't that bad. Even now, I get a little nervous whenever I enter the arcade. But once I get up on that pad, when I'm playing the game, I just forget about everyone else. I just get into the song.

Now, my good friend is back home (he was staying here over the summer), so I've got to train on my own. And now, I'M the teacher, as my other friend is just beginning. He's got the same shyness problem, and like I always tell him, "Just forget about everyone else." It's really just a matter of tricking yourself into thinking that the only things that exist are yourself and the game.

Plus, there's nothing to be scared of. There are some assholes out there, but a lot of people are really nice. I know people at my arcade that encourage me, or even give me congratulations whenever I achieve something, and I'm way below their skill level. Plus, it always feels nice to bust out your best moves every once in a while. Not long ago, I would always play Max300 light just because I could do so well on it. I love getting an A on that song in front of everyone and turning around at the very end just for looks. riiight.gif

Sure, there are people that can do a LOT more than me, but I just like to go up there and have fun. And as I play more, I gain more and more confidence. Plus, playing in front of people who don't play is GREAT. I've played in a tiny arcade with my friend, and we both have done so-so there. Still, it's in a pizza place, so all these little kids come in, and they always look at you in awe. There's also the movie theater, where all these people waiting in line watch people in the arcade. Tis very nice to play in front of people who can't.

So, now that I've droned on for MUCH longer than I should, I'll just say this: don't stop dancing. E1.gif
