In regards to the new DDR EXTREME CS MACHINE BOOTLEGS:

Demitri Omni wrote:
Okay. Good news. Whatever you guys signed or petitioned, it worked. According to an E-mail we recieved yesterday morning, they're recalling ALL of the bad machines, and hopefully replacing the original machines. Here's the original message, before we even got the machine (all of us were laughing about it, because our DM knew exactly what it was, and how it (didn't) worked. We knew Namco wouldn't last a week before they all broke and would have to be recalled. It lasted a day and a half for us.):

Attention Location Manager,

Soon you will be receiving or already have received a Dance Dance Revolution BM. Please make note of the following.

!!!! IMPORTANT !!!!

BEFORE powering up the game, check to make sure the monitor board is secure. The small brackets on the sides of the monitor board may be loose and could result in the monitor board becoming dislodged in shipping. Powering up the game with this condition could result in irrepairable damage to the monitor board.

Changes to the dip switch settings should be done at the end of the day when the game will be off for the night. Otherwise the game make have trouble rebooting.

It will take the game anywhere from 1 to 6 minutes to boot up and go into attract mode.

In theIn the near future you will be receiving an update kit that containing modifications to better this unit. All of the upgrades MUST be installed! We will send and e-mail informing you when this kit will be shipped.

If you have any questions or problems regarding this game, please contact Tech Services @ 1-***-***-**** Ext-*.

Regards,

Tech Service

And the e-mail we received yesterday (a day and a half after we got the machine booted up, etc.):

DDR 8 'BM' Games wrote:
IF you have recently received a "new" DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION 8TH MIX BM game, do NOT OPERATE the game.

If it is already operating, please SHUT IT DOWN IMMEDIATELY, take it apart, and set it aside for pickup as soon as trucking can be arranged. (This may take a couple of weeks, so please store it out of the way.)

These games are not as they were originally represented to NCI when they were purchased, and we will be returning them to the seller as soon as possible!

If you have any questions, please contact your supervisor.

Best regards,

The end, I hope.

Also, could someone quote me and post it on DDR Freak? I don't want to register on the forums. :x

Alright ready for an absolutely ridiculous scenario?
If you use a hacked disc and enable the extra mods, you recieve the mod "fuwa fuwa" (wave). Using speed mods with fuwa fuwa has no effect, as far as we can tell. I passed a couple songs on 8x Wave no problems.

Actually it does affect the arrows. Play Silent Hill 3rd Christmas Mix on x1 wave and then on x8 wave on one of these hacked machines and you will see the difference. Unlike on Stepmania, freeze arrows are treated as single images, and when you use wierd boosts it doesn't treat the top and bottom of the freeze as two arrows that are to move independently. In other words, the arrows and freeze arrows are both sprites that get moved around by boost. When you use speed mods, the freeze arrow sprits is lengthened to match the speed mod (ie x2 means the freeze arrow is twice as long). However, if you watch, once you hit a freeze arrow, it stops following the speeds regulated by the boost effect and moves following the maximum speed.

For example, let's say I play a song that is 100 bpm and use boost. The arrows start out at the bottom moving very slowly, but are moving at x1.5 when they hit the top (in this case the effective bpm would be 150). The freeze arrow sprites in the song would follow this same effect, meaning the entire solid arrow would move slowly and then be moving at 150 right when it was time for you to step and hold. However, once you hit the arrow and begin to hold it down, the tail of the freeze arrow moves at a constant speed (150 bpm) until you get the O.K. Furthermore, the length of the freeze arrow as it moves from the bottom of the screen to the top is 1.5 times its length if you had played on x1 no boost.

In the case of fuwa wave madness, the setup of speeds and accelerations is pre-determined. The entire mass of arrows moves up at some speed determined by the BPM, but the arrows themselves wave up and down at some pre-determined interval (ie the whole mas of arrows moves up as a whole, but the individual arrows are moving forward or backward depending on their location on the screen). Speed mods will not effect the speed at which the mass moves or the accelerations at which the individual arrows wave BUT it will influence the length and disintegration speed of any freeze arrows that may appear in the song.

Going back to my example, Silent Hill 3rd Christmas is freeze happy. Playing the song on x8 fuwa means that EVERY freeze arrow in the song is as long as it would be if you were playing on 8x normal BUT the game tries to fit all of the sprites on the screen at once as determined by the fuwa programming. So you have these super-long arrows all bouncing around and it is almost impossible to read. However, once you hit one of the arrows it flies up the screen as though it were moving x8 speed.

Its still has always been reffered to as Freckles. Technically, the song Is freckles Sobakasu, as it is the english version of the song. DDRMAX2 had it listed as Freckles.

Eh? My Megamix at the Tilt in Enfield, CT has Dam Dariram (KCP Mix). Would that mean it has more, or are people just being confusing again? riiight.gif

The latter. The songlist is not changed. Extreme has Dam Dariram by default. That's probably what people saw.

Not to be off topic here, but weren't these also the machines with the PS2 memory slots? (very few on the face of the Earth)

Let's recap this whole thing. These are DDR Megamix's particularities:

1- Graphics change (main screen, warning screen, marquee, song select, and probably other stuff)

2- Sorting is being remembered between games. (ie: If a player used, say, ABC sorting on his last song, the next player will start on ABC sorting, instead of the normal DDREX sorting).

3- Some versions have been known for replacing freeze arrows with "blocks". I have no clue as to whatever that means. If someone could confirm, it would be appreciated.

4- DDR Megamix has been proven to be unlockable with normal DDREX codes and instructions. Some other versions will not allow you to go to the "code-entering" screen. It is said that versions that replace freezes with "blocks" won't allow the unlock procedure.

5- When a game is started in ABC sorting (ie: if the last's game's song was selected using ABC sorting), some random song will play.

6- Another unconfirmed piece of info is: Unlockable versions may play songs available only through unlocking, should a game be started on ABC sorting.

7- Loading times (when you select a song, and it says "1st stage") can be a bit longer than on Extreme. I noticed that on many Megamixes (2 in Montreal, 1 in Laval (before they swtiched it back to DDREX), 1 in St-Constant), so I doubt that all those 4 would suddently have CD Drive issues, and that those issues would suddently drop when one of them gets switched back to DDREX.

For the freeze arrows being blocks, it's just a solid rectangle with the color scheme of a freeze arrow
