Posting a thread here to just tell people to go to the Tourney Discussion thread is more along the lines of postwhoring/useless posting.. If anything, either copy and paste the rules and stuff for it, or at least post a link to the thread in tourney discussion.

I wont sticky this until you do one of those.

So I have to stay in Melbourne for 2 nights w/ an entry fee of $25 in order to win this thing.

Nah... seems like more of a thing for local players.

Aside from hotel accomodations, is there any place that is willing to front out of town participants? If Jax wants to go, I'll certainly put my name in the ballot and help split their expenses, but Tyger and Tieguy are right. This seems to be geared for the local crew. Regarding gas, hotel accomodations, food, and entry fee, that's looking to be at the very least, a $75 trip for out of towners with no concrete definition of the prize package.

And wow... as far as the ratio is concerned, that's a large entry fee in regards to the current cash prize... and this "up to" this much... how many participants are required to make this prize? How many are you expecting? Does the amount of prize money have a positive correlation with the number of participants? Is there any "definite" amount of prize money that we can count on as to factor in for potential budgeting purposes?

Alright, I was browsing the rules (key in on the word: browsing) on this website and from what I can tell... Well, let me explain. What I have quoted below is Rule #13..

Quote:
13. Scoring: (Perfect Attack Style) Perfects +2pts, Greats +1pt, Goods 0pt, Boos -2pts, Misses, -4pts, OKs +3pts. Qualifiers will consist of (2) songs on STANDARD mode, and one on HEAVY, all randomly chosen. No song that is a 10-footer on heavy is allowed as any of the three songs, in addition, no song can be an 8 or 9 footer. Semi-Finals will consist of same scoring method as the qualifiers. Finals will be a best of 7 series bracket match play. First player to win 4 rounds advances until a winner is determined. Cumulative score for both single and doubles round will be considered 1 round. Any failures in any round will result in automatic disqualification.

And... my question stems from the bolded statement within that quotation. I can understand the 10 footers being eliminated, that's reasonable, BUT you are eliminating 8 AND 9 footers? I hope you understand that... in the EX song list, approximately 56% of your Heavy difficulty songs fall into the 8 and 9 foot category. This isn't so problematic for Standard, side for its Heavy 10-footer counterparts which.. all of the above are 8 feet and above, as well as numerous songs such as Leading Cyber, Grad Cyber, etc. that are 7 footers.. that's not the real concern.. but what is the concern is that for your Heavy round, you are limiting play to 44% the songs of EX..

Also, I'm noticing the doubles play. I'm assuming this means that we have to be proficient in both singles and doubles, yes? Interesting.. considering that there are some amongst your potential registers who, due to deteriorating pad conditions, aren't able to partake in doubles play... May I assume everyone in Melbourne who plays is an afficinado with both singles and doubles play, because I've never seen a tournament that requires both in order to win..

OK
(regarding the 2 nights thing)
I need to clear up a few things E1.gif You do not have to 'stay' in Melbourne for 2 nights, because we have decided to add a qualifying round Sunday Dec 28th at Noon! This will solve the problem if people do want to come from out of the area, but do not have the means of staying with someone in the area. This will allow anyone that wants to come from lets say the Jacksonville area, to drive down in the morning, compete, qualify, then be able to have a chance to actually WIN the tournament.
The way we are setup, you do not need to attend all 3 days! (just attend any one of the qualifying match/squad times for a chance to make the cut to sunday).

(regarding Rule 13)
About the 8 and 9 foot songs. We will review the wording of this, from this point of view, I agree it is confusing. I got the rules from someone at a University that runs tournaments quite often, and I just used what he gave me. I think the intention of this rule was to stop 8 and 9 footers on standard, but I will review this and post a resolution to this rule within a day or two.

(regarding Doubles Play)
Doubles are only present in the 'Final Round'. We won't always have doubles. (We are having a DDR Extreme event around the end of January, and this scoring rule won't be present). In any tournament, wether it be bowling, pool, darts, DDR, sometimes trying to find the most well rounded player is what makes them a champion! We felt that having a round consisting of both 3 singles and 3 doubles songs at random would achieve this for this particular event. The January 2004 DDR Extreme tournament will have some other unique challenge. I can assure you that is has nothing to do with the 'local' crowd here in our area. Most pads in our area (besides ours) don't allow for very good practicing Doubles either, so I suspect this might be due to maintence practices of each arcade in maintaining their own equipment.

(regarding Prize Package)
This is clearly stated in rules 1 and 8. This prizes are based on entries. 30 entries will give us our $200 first place prize, more or less than that number will effect the prizes! (if we get 60 entries, 1st place will be closer to $480, 2nd would pay about $120).

Lancade has been open for about 3 months now. Yes we are new to this, and I really appricate all this feedback. We are here for you guys and gals that love DDR. Our intention is to have 1 DDR tournament a month. Some will have corporate sponsorship, others will be totally based on entires. Our goal is to be one of the gaming centers that people can rely on to listen to complaints and wishes of the gaming community. My door is always open to comments and suggestions regarding current and future events.

from what i understand, lancade is a LAN party-type place. they do not have a ddr machine, but they do have two redoctane metal pads fastened together. they also usethe playstation2 version of extreme.

as a final note, don't support the bowling alley until they stop being lazy, and decide to actually keep up the maintenance to their ddr machine. it hasn't had a check-up in over six months, and the dirt/liquids/sweat/abuse that the pads have collected over this time are ruining it.

Let me say this first: Yes, we are a LAN gaming center, GAMERS helped us design this center! All suggestions and feedback were taken into account when we built this place. The DDR/PS-2 setup was built with the help of 4 serious DDR freaks, that spend $10-$30 a week on DDR. We listened. We are not an 'arcade' in the typical sense.

Yes, it's true, it is a PS/2 w/ licensed DDR Extreme NTSC/J version, but ask any of the locals that have been to our center. It's done right! E1.gif It is complete with cabinet for the monitor, no annoying flashing lights in your face, and a 1 1/2 inch plywood deck that the pads (Red Octane v2.5 metal pads) are bolted down to (and that is anchored directly to the slab of the building). All songs are unlocked. Free cold water, warm atmosphere, plenty of parking, and for anyone entering the tournament, free internet access and gaming on any of our PC's (we have 20 rentals), Xboxes, or PS/2's that are available in the center during your stay with paid entry! biggrin.gif (oh, we also have 10 tons of A/C to keep you cool!)

The monitor is a flat screen 27" TV, at EYE level, not like the arcade (it is MUCH easier on the eyes this way). Tweeters at head level, with base wooofers inside of cabinet that work. Trick bars are bolted into the plywood deck in a similar fashion to the arcade version.

Bottom line: We think you'll be impressed with the setup we have!

I will post the 'official' update to this within 24 hours.

We have decided to waive the 8 and 9 foot rule on all standard and heavy songs as it was originally worded in the original posted rule 13 on our website. (This means that 8 and 9 foot songs are allowed in both Standard and Heavy modes of the contest).

Thanks again for all your feedback!

For those who make the final cut, we have made a change to the rules to make it easier on those who do not play doubles often.

The top 4 players that make it to the final rounds, will still be seeded in match bracket best of 7 (first one to win 4 rounds advances). The singles portion will be 2 songs standard, 3rd heavy, however the change comes into play with the doubles portion of the round, in which it is now 2 songs LIGHT mode, 3rd song STANDARD mode.

This should help out alot!

Thank you! riiight.gif

I know sometimes I am busy running our gaming center, and I don't always get the chance to just be a PERSON. You are a valued customer! I also know how picky most of the hardcore DDR people are with their pads and the places they play. William (n3mi5y5), Gimp, NESCartFanatic, and yourself last and not least, have been invaluable in helping us create a great place to play DDR in Brevard County, FL.

This means alot to us! E13.gif
