So, I got my big heavy arcade unit today.

Its in my home now, but its not working right; The screen only shows a flat purple line. We tried the picture adjusting knobs, but they weren't helping.

Anyone have ideas about fixing it?

It sounds like the problem could lie in the power supply. Does the screen completely turn on and you have just a purple line or is the purple line taking up the part of the screen that it's projecting to? You were a little vague with what was happening to your machine and would make it hard for anyone to determine what the problem is.

I'm no tech, but the problem sounds like it might be an emitter problem with the screen. It sound like the focus of the emitter has only horizontal and not vertical. I'm not sure what screen you have. It's mostly tube style that I know of, just because everything else seems work from what you tell me. It might be as simple as replacing the screen or it could be worse. If you need parts check out Channelbeat.com. they may also be able to direct you to where you could find more technical help.

I bought the machine from them.

We think its Vertical Deflection. Our documents suggest that we need to find the Service switch on the board for the screen, but nothing on the board can be identified as such.

There are several things it could be. at worst, you blew a capacitor in transit and that would need to be replaced. Depending on how tough it is to get to, it could run you anywhere from $10 to $100 for the repair.

Crack open the back of your machine (the panel on the monitor) and check back there for any disconnected stuff.

If there ain't any, call someone for help. You've got a blown cap.

*blinks* Telling someone to just "crack open" a screen is a no-no... CRT screens can have upwards of 10k+ volts of electricity stored... I wouldn't advise opening a screen unless you absolutely know what you're doing...

Well, cracking open the back panel itself is actually safe; When a machine is being upgraded/reverted, the techs open the back to get inside the CD drive.

We didn't open the screen itself, thats definitely not safe.

I do have a warranty, and my distributor has recognized my proof of the monitor's problem, and will most likely pay for the repair.

<side note, for your safety we here at Insanity Inc. Do not suggest going out and getting yourself fried by a ddr machine. Instead, stay home and play with barbie dolls and tea sets, thank you that is all, now back to your regularly scheduled ddr postings>

*grins* I have a decent sense of adventure... But death, albeit being the "greatest adventure" isn't too high on my priorities list... E15.gif
