Err, another difference between Magic 3.1 and 2 is that the 3.1's have sleep mode. Also, I'd like to recommend the Magic 3.1 and Messiah 2 Clones from http://www.evolutionmods.com as they are the only chips better than the originals E1.gif Same source code, but with higher quality chips, and cheaper prices. I have the magic 3.1 clone, and couldn't be happier E1.gif E1.gif E1.gif

So this clone has no problems? At modchip.ca they bash it a lot, but they would of course.. The price difference is quite big though, so if they are 'identical'..

Also - what else is needed apart from the chip? modchip.ca has some pen they want you to buy.

"Leline Fiberglass Pen (GREAT for SAFELY prepping contacts - if you don't have one make sure you buy one!)"

of course you need solder, a thin tip soldering iron and wires E1.gif

You want a Magic 3.1. A 3.6 is just a cheap clone that often has problems.

How WELL does it work

Umm... it either works or it doesn't. If it doesn't work, then it doesn't work 'well'. riiight.gif And it DOES work, at least with what I've tried. I haven't tried booting 6th or 7th Mix yet specifically, though.

Buy a Magic 3.1

Magic 3.6's are clones of the Magic 3.1 and do not work well AT ALL.

I got mine for $35 from www.psx-tech.com, and you want them to install it for you, theyll do it for $90 +s/h for $90.

Paying someone to install it is the way to go.

This was probably answered in the old thread, but I'm lazy E10.gif

Regarding using a PSX Gameshark (or the PSX disc packed with the GS2) to boot up PSX copies and imports on the PS2 (either using a Flip-top mod or just removing the PS2 cover and CD bay cover - which I'm currently doing until I can get a FT):

Since there's no modchip involved, and basically after you get it going, the PS2 thinks it's a regular game, does this method defeat all anti-mod protection (like those seen in 4th and 5th mix)? I would assume it does, but I'd just like further clafification.

Legit, or a knock-off?

That Magic 4.1 looks like a clone that is compatible with V8.

Well, I just sent my PS2 out to psx-tech.com to get it modded with a Magic 3.1. I hate having to send my PS2 out, espeically if it's gonna take about 10 days to get it back. But It'll all be worth it when I can play jp DDRMAX and DDRMAX2. I'll be sure to post about how everything works when I get my PS2 back.

This is the "I don't want to wait 10 days" smiley -> drool.gif

Where did you ship from? The guys at Mailbox etc. said it would take until Sat or Monday to get out to San Francisco. It sais on psx-tech's site that they solder within 2 days of getting it, and I'm figuring a similar trip back timewise so realistically I guess I'm looking at around 2 weeks. I'm shipping from Washington DC by the way.

If you want it faster just send in extra money for shipping. It took about 5 days from sending it out to getting back just cuz i sent money for priority mailing.
