I Still haven't gotten around to doing my mod, but here are the plans:

1) Obtain Two DDR Dance pads (the cheap, Mad Catz ones), 1/2" plywood, a chair mat for hardwood floors, hard vinyl floor covering, duct tape or packing tape, and a staple gun.

2) Cut plywood into two pieces. Place a dance pad onto each of them.

3) Using a marker, section off eight areas on the chair mat large enough to cover the action buttons (square, X, triangle, O) and two areas that can cover the center area. Cut out the section from the chair mat.

4) Position the pieces of the chair mat onto the pads. Using either packing tape or duct tape, attach the squares onto the pad.

5) Using hard vinyl floor covering, cover up the plywood, dance pad, and pieces of the chair mat. Staple the floor covering onto the plywood.

How does that sound to everyone? I'm worried that the chair mat might cause the sensors to registers when I don't hit them. However, this addition will cause it to feel more "arcady" IMO.

Thanks for your input.

Original soft pad discussion

I don't know of any specific GameStops that carry the RO Ignition 2.0, just repeating what I've heard. Although Gamestop Online has it, maybe your local store can have one shipped out for you. Just ask them, maybe you'll get lucky. E7.gif

I really can't guess if this mod would cause any mis-firing. It sounds like a good idea for soft pads! The only bit that concerns me is this:

It looks like you wouldn't have the entire pad surface overed with chairmat plastic, so that'd leave pretty sharp edges along the floor mat squares (I know the side of my chairmat was pretty rigid after being cut, but it's just one big mat piece that fits perfectly inside the giant 'pocket' of the ignition pads). I don't know how sturdy the vinyl floor covering is, but I would think that playing on the pad enough might eventually cause tears or rips where the edges of the floormat meet with the vinyl floor mat.

Well, I did that chairmat mod that everyone's been talking about. Bought an el-cheapo $17 mat at Officemax, got me a $10 pair of snips from Home Depot, and went to work. This mod works great! I score just about as well on this mod as I do with just removing the cushy insert all together, except my feet don't hurt as much. If the pad still mis-fired, it may have done so for only one step. That's one step out of approximately 2000 when I played a few minutes ago (not exaggerating on the 2000, I did 3 3-song runs on Heavy Mode). It requires a bit of elbow grease to cut the mat, but if you've got some Ignition pads and ~$40 burning a hole in your pocket, this mod is well worth it!

yayy! Congrats. I'm so glad it worked out for you on Heavy-- as I mentioned earlier we can only do 6-7 foot Standard songs, but the chair mat was working 100% accurately for us at that level.

Keep us advised, if it is still working as well for you a month later (ours is). I spent a long time trying different insert materials before I came up with the chair mat idea, and I really do think it's the "ultimate" insert, short of buying a new Cobalt Flux.. biggrin.gif

I got both my CypherDX pads in the mail today.
10 minutes after set up, I passed Matsuri Japan on heavy for the first time, with a C.

I love em E4.gif

ACK! One of my pads doesnt work properly! The down, and left pad dont respond. What can I do to fix it?

1. Go into options -> controller settings, and turn controllers 1 and 2 off if you haven't already.
2. Try booting the game without the pads plugged in, then plug them in. Sometimes the pads go wacko when you don't.

Tried both. Nothing. I think it's the pad, since the lights flash when you step on a sensor, and neither is lighting up? Do I need to open my pad? Is there a FAQ that covers this?

I got the RedOctane Ignition Pad 2.0 recently. It's a real good pad. The only bad thing is the zipper. When you zip it up for the first time you got to be real careful. Also Redoctane has good customer service. I ordered this bundle that came with 2 pads, 2 pad covers, DDRMax, and a carrying case. When I first got them the zippers broke on both they sent me two new ones pretty fast. So it turned out ok. If you want a review here's a good one.

wumpus recently posted a soft pad article in this thread that, among other things, had a direct comparision of the BNS DX and RO Ignition pads, check it out. E7.gif

Is there any other place to get the BNS Ultra DX-Xtreme pad other than http://www.buynshop.com/productinfophp3/VG-DDR-ULTDX ? Because it's sold out, and I was hoping to get it for my birthday, which is the 21st of this month...I tried a google search, but it only pointed me back to the exact same site. If this pad is such a great pad, shouldn't it be sold at least a couple more places? Another reason I wanted to get it at this place was because of the 30 day warranty in case something was wrong when it was shipped...anyway, any other places anyone knows of that might sell these pads? thanks.

Thanks RyukumuIsora. After hearing your concerns, I'm not sure what I'll do... I might tape the edges of the chair mat so that the corners and edges are rounded...

I think I'll give that a try. I'll post again when it's complete. Hopefully, it'll turn out alright.
