Yahoo! featured an article on games that should be be put to rest. And guess what? One of the games is DDR!

My reaction: "WTF?!"

http://videogames.yahoo.com/feature/five-game-franchises-to-put-to-rest/1276226

But then again, it's kinda funny too.

I think Yahoo is a pretty cool guy. eh bashes games for no real reason and doesn't afraid of anything.

By the logic of "there's too many versions of it", Grand Theft Auto should be put on there, and so should the Mario franchise.

Sonic, yeah. He started cool but he went down.
Crash, yes.
Lesiure Suit Larry, never played that stuff.
Need for Speed crashed recently, right? I didn't care too much.

But their reason for DDR just does not hold water.

can anyone follow this? We cannot, which means it's time to rein it in for a few years and let everyone catch up.

Does it matter? Sure for songs that you really want to play, but it's not hard differentiating the arcade mixes. The console mixes I understand. But please, don't put them in the same group.

And I agree, if their logic is that there are too many, then why not point the finger at Mario (I argue Party) or Grand Theft Auto (PS2 series, not IV). There are too many of them and the differences probably don't matter, let's get rid of them.

Guess it comes down to the old "Guitar Hero is the new DDR" theory, right?

Need for Speed ProStreet sucked, but Need for Speed Undercover was actually pretty good. So yes and no.

And let's see how many Grand Theft Auto games there are on the PS2:
GTA3
GTA Vice City
GTA San Andreas
GTA Liberty City Stories
GTA Vice City Stories

That's 5 games, all using the same game engine as GTA3. The only real differences with the games are that they all have different storylines and they add a few little improvements to each game, but otherwise they are basically the same. It's funny how they all got rave reviews despite being really similar while DDR is often bashed for "not changing enough".

I knew it was one of those two. My brother didn't like what he heard about Undercover and I was disappointed by ProStreet which led me to my crash statement. It was a shame...

That's what buggered me and is probably bugging a couple of other people.

Which reminds me. WHY has nobody mentioned Madden?

I can't believe I forgot Madden.

Scores for XBOX 360 versions Madden NFL '06, '07, '08, and '09 on GameSpot:

Madden '06: 7.4
Madden '07: 7.9
Madden '08: 8.5
Madden '09: 8.0

By comparison, their scores for the games up to Supernova 2 (they didn't review DDR X):

DDR Extreme: 7.9
DDR Extreme 2: 7.2
DDR Supernova: 7.0
DDR Supernova 2: 5.5

Their reasoning for the 5.5 on SN2 is because apparently "This series badly needs to learn some new moves". Funny how they say that about DDR, though with every new release there is some kind of somewhat significant change, like Extreme having EyeToy, Extreme 2 having online play, Supernova having more than two 10 footers, and Supernova 2 adding marvelous timing to standard gameplay. All that's changed with Madden is somewhat new roster lists and a different football player on the cover. WOW WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE OMFG!!!!111!~!11one11!!~!!1!!

You'd think that with a statement like that it raises the question "Why mention it at all?" But I digress, the fact that they're ignoring the original three and CD, hell, ignoring up to Adventure, is just plain disappointing. The credibility of this/these writer(s) is mediocre at best. Not because they spoke ill of DDR, but because it's just a mess of complaints written by someone who just doesn't know what they're talking about.

Meh.. DDR.
I could care less, although it's a dancing game.
That's just one person with their opinoin, I think? Correct me if I'm wrong.
DDR is "old" ITG is "new", don't even worry.

ITG is dead as far as new machines and stuff. Though I get where you're going.

Not only that, but Crash Bandicoot was one of the greatest series ever until it moved to PS2, meaning it had 5 games before these new ones that were absolutely amazing.

It doesn't matter though, what the writer of this doesn't realize is that with pretty much all of these games, a lot of them end up being greatest hits, and even if they don't they still get some decent sales, regardless of how "bad" they are.

I am sitting next to my copies of Crash Bandicoot 2 & 3, marvellling at my 103% and my 90% respectively.

Six hundred versions? what?

Sonic died because it was too hard. Sonic was on G4's series that need to die list, too.

Crash Bandicoot: I thought they stopped making those games a long time ago.

Leisure suit larry: WTF? I've never even heard of this game.

Need For Speed: I don't care too much for racing games, but I'm pretty sure there hasn't been that many sequels and they were pretty good.

Its a somewhat amusing, extremely perverted PC game. I think they made a PS2 version of it as well.

Ah, levels 26-30. I loved playing their stages, but not unlocking them (the work pained me).
