DDR Stupidities

Name a few DDR Stupidities you've seen or heard. You know, stupid things people have done or said regarding DDR (or PIU or ITG for that matter). I'll start, once a kid in my school got BPM and MPH mixed up and thought the arrows in MAX 300 scrolled at 300 MPH.

That's because they do scroll at 300 miles per hour. And if you can beat MAX300, that means you can run at 300 miles per hour.

So start training because think of all the gas and time you can save! Might want to invest in a few good pairs of shoes, however.

I kid I kid.

Aside from the people who push the button on you when it is versus and you wanted to set options, and aside from the people who choose every song on versus by doing similar (usually the same song at least twice, and you are forced on something un-fun like Light mode because you didn't have time to double-tap)?

That is, however, a very good way to ensure that people will never play DDR with you ever again.

Also it's pretty stupid when people stomp.

I saw this one guy using both of his feet to hit a single arrow, I kid you not. He was jumping around hitting individual arrows by jumping and landing on whichever arrow he wanted. Yeah, I'm pretty sure the pads aren't made for that.

I know, it's not really stupidity so much as ignorance, but the guy seemed to be a know-it-all about the game until I started talking about AAAs and he said that. I almost laughed out loud. I'm glad I didn't, though. That would've made me a jerk. And I'm not. Really.

You guys are missing the point of the thread. A DDR Stupidity is saying "You step on the arrows when they light up", not tapping a hold repeatedly like a roll so you won't get a pad NG.

Today when I went into the local arcade to play DDR, I notice the person in front of me is doing these huge jumps and slams into the pad. The person before that was stomping pretty hard too, but at least not doing huge jump/slams like this other person (who was using the bar to push upwards to get more air on the jumps before the slam down).

I thought "Oh great. This pad is <insert expletive>". Sure enough when I go to play it I am getting C's on songs I can AA because of constant pad misses. I try a song I can easily get a B or an A on and fail because of pad misses.

That is not fun. And they were playing on Light mode too, not that it matters. I usually see that stompers play on Light mode. (No offense to Light mode players who aren't stompers, mind you.) Occasionally there will be a stomper on Standard mode.

They were proud of their little A's and B's they were getting. Meanwhile they were destroying the pads for everyone else.

Stompers = the bane of DDR.

If your arcade's pads are bad, it's probably because of stompers in your area. If only there were some way to prevent stompers from playing....

I have to stomp... not only do we have awful pads that don't seem to ever get fixed, but I weigh so little I barely trigger steps on new pads.

Would someone telling me to watch him so I could learn from him count, since he was missing notes on beginner and had to do versus to keep himself from failing? (I swear he must have been drunk, especially after watching him play. He was shaking a little and swearing at the game)

Well there is a difference between stepping firmly and stomping. If you're stomping you really need to stop that because it does damage the pads.

Also, there is a difference between a normally-weighted individual stomping or a clearly overweight individual stomping and someone who is underweight stomping. I usually see normally-weighted and overweight stompers.

Put it this way. If the pads are already bad and you are stomping, you are probably just contributing to making them even worse.

If you couldn't push something out of the way would you punch it instead? That puts a lot of force directed on those pads when you stomp.

I know you aren't trying to break anything and it really is directed more towards average-weighted and above stompers, which are the ones I see the most frequently.

-A long time ago, this guy thought I HAD to be an experienced tap dancer after I played MAX300. On top of that, he would not believe me when I said I don't tap dance.

-When I pretty much had my first big crowd a long time ago at an arcade, I was so nervous I somehow forgot that I had to press the buttons on the machine to scroll though the music, so I instead started hitting the left and right arrows for a good 15 seconds of confusion.

-Six Flags Astroworld got rid of their DDR EXTREME because of LITTLE BITCH's name.
