-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
See below for a comprehensive list of the DDR tournament rules ……
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DDR Tournament Rules
Important: NO refunds will be given for entrance fee once paid. The only refunds that will be given will be given in the event that more than 16 players sign up. Any players that do not make the cut will receive a two dollar refund.
Pay-Per-Play Rules:
Before each bout starts, each player will bring 75 cents to the arbiter for vendor fees. If the bout goes a full 3 songs, all 75 cents will be put towards vendor fees. If two songs are played during the match, 50 cents will be put towards vendor fees, and the 25 cents remaining from each player will be added to the pot. The qualifying round will cost 25 cents.
Qualifiers:
Qualifiers will be played to determine the order in which the participants seed. Qualifiers will be played on Heavy by default. However, if a player's skill limits them to Standard, Light, or Beginner mode, they will be allowed to drop down to the appropriate difficulty for the qualifier. If more than 16 people sign up for the tournament, then the top 16 qualifiers will compete.
Matches:
Matches in the tournament will be played in a best-out-of-three format. Players beat their opponents on individual songs by having a higher score than their opponent at the end of the song. If there is a tie after the first two songs, a random tiebreaker song will be played to determine the winner.
Tournament processes:
Song Selection:
1. The decision to pick the first song or not goes to the higher seed. The player with the higher seed also has choice over which side of the pad to use.
2. The player with song choice chooses their song.
• The player without song choice may play the selected song on any difficulty desired. The only case in which this does not apply is when a song has both heavy and oni steps. If the player with song choice picks a song with heavy and oni steps, and picks either heavy or oni difficulty, then the player without song choice will be required to play the song on the same difficulty as they picked or drop down to Standard, Light, or Beginner mode. Standard stepcharts with a foot-rating below 8 will not be permitted at the tournament. However, if a player is technically incapable of playing on Standard difficulty or above, they will be permitted to play on either "Beginner" or "Light" difficulty.
3. Important: Once a song is completed, players may NOT fast forward the score screen until the arbiter gives permission to do so.
4. If there is a tie for score on an individual song, the song will be played again as a tiebreaker, or as many times as needed until one player wins on that particular song.
5. Song choice switches to the other player for the second song and steps 2 and 3 are repeated.
6. If there is a tie after the second song, a random tiebreaker will be played to determine the winner. Random tiebreakers are played on the “Heavy” difficulty by default.
Pad Misses:
If a player loses a bout because of what an arbiter deems to be a pad miss, then the players will switch sides on the pad, and play the same song on the same difficulty. Each player’s highest score will be used to determine the winner on that particular song.
Failing Songs and Giving Up:
If a player fails or gives up on a song that they picked, then they will automatically lose on that particular song, and the other player will not be required to keep playing the song in order to win. If a player picks a song and the other player fails it or gives up, then they will be required to pass it in order to win on that particular song.
Scoring:
Players will earn points towards their score for each song by earning Perfects, Greats, and O.K.’s during a song. For each “Perfect” and “O.K” a player achieves, 2 points will be awarded. For each “Great” achieved a player will be awarded 1 point.
~Grounds for disqualification~
• Sportsmanship is required at all times during the tournament, whether on or off of the dance pad. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.
• Swearing or indecent language will not be tolerated at any time during the tournament.
• A warning will be given the first time either one of the above two rules is broken. A second violation will result in a loss of the current match or the current round. If a third violation occurs the player will immediately be eliminated from the tournament and their name will be replaced with a bye. Any arbiter reserves the right to bypass giving a warning should they feel that the first violation was severe enough.
~General Rules~
• Nonstop courses, Oni courses, and Edit stepcharts are not allowed in the tournament.
• Players automatically lose a match if they cannot pay the Pay-Per-Play fees. If a player cannot pay the fee in time, the match will be postponed. If a player cannot pay the fee at the postponed match, they automatically lose.
• If a player cannot be found in time for their matchup, then the bout will be postponed until later in the round. If the player cannot be found for their postponed bout then the player shall lose the bout by default.
• Any player that passes out during a bout will lose the match by default if they are not revived in time for the next song.
• Permissible modifiers:
-Speed modifiers, stealth, hidden, sudden, boost, flat, and dark may be used at any time during the tournament.
-“Little” may be used, and freeze arrows may be turned off, but players will not receive points in any way for arrows/freezes removed by said modifier.
-“Solo” and all turn modifiers may be used at any time during the tournament based on player agreement.
• Players may not pick the same song more than once during the tournament. The “Random” select function may be used as many times as a player wants during the tournament. Players may still pick the qualifier song after the qualifiers have ended.
• If more than 16 people register for the tournament, then the top 16 qualifiers will play in the tournament.

| I'll be there. After how poor the last tourney went for me, I'm not sure if I'll bother to compete, but I'll at least show. |

Andrew I guess enjoys being legendary in Northern NE.
In seriousness though, he's always working on Saturday's at Best Buy, but I'll definitely bug him about scheduling a day off so both him and I can head down there. |

I don't know if I qualify, but I plan on attending this. If you want, and can get a ride to my house, I can bring you down there. _________________

Can't stand fumbling for quarters at the beginning of each round? Hate waiting for your match to start because you need change?
Melt the hassles away with MMG7's new payment method!
For just $13, you can be exempt from Pay-Per-Play fees at MMG7!
Now hapiness and ease of mind is only 13 dollars away!

Yes, I'm completely serious. This probably wasn't clear before, but it's not a new price, it's just a new (and optional) payment method. It's based on the amount of PPP money that can be spent during the tournament, and it's basically just so that you can get right on to your match and not worry about PPP.
I'm curious as to the response you guys/gals will have to this...any comments?

Oh alright. That's not so bad. I don't really see why anyone would do it but having the option can't hurt. As long as I get my PPP. _________________

Looked the bracket over, and the price can be reasonably reduced to $13.
Fixed. |

Guys/gals, I'm in kind of a predicament right now about the tournament scheduled for next Saturday.
Right now, DDR is back up and running, although it frequently takes longer than usual (5-25 seconds usually, sometimes longer) to load a song. On top of that, it still freezes completely sometimes. I think it might just be because we just put a brand new CD-ROM drive in, but I don't know.
I'm extremely wary of running a DDR tournament next Saturday- first off, I know people aren't going to want to wait around if I have to restart the machine, and that's only going to cause complaints after the tournament. Also, if the machine dies during the tournament, I really won't know what to do. The only thing I would be able to do is either just stop the tournament completely (which no one wants to see happen), or install the brand new back-up CD-ROM drive that we just got in the mail today, and no one is going to want to wait for that.
As much as I hate to say this, I'm considering canceling the tournament next Saturday. I don't want to take the risk that the machine dies in the middle of the tournament or people get annoyed because of problems with the machine.
What do you guys think? I would still like to run a Pump tournament, especially seeing as I already have some local memebers of the community coming out. Would you guys participate in a Pump tournament? At this point I really don't know what to say, I haven't come to any decisions yet about a Pump tourney, although I feel that I'm probably going to end up running one next Saturday, DDR tournament or not.
If there's ever been a time where feedback was crucial for me, this is it- please help me out guys/gals, because I won't know what to do until I know what everyone thinks.

This. Also, if worse comes to worse, I'd play in a Pump tourney despite it literally being my first experience with five-panel play. _________________

You tried the drive, but did you try the CD? Honestly, it could be scratched up or something. Get some CD cleaner! less than three _________________
