Different DDR games have different ways of referring to each level:
Beginner
Basic, Light
Standard, Trick, Another, Difficult
Heavy, Maniac, SSR, Expert
Challenge, Oni

What do you call each level?
I say beginner, light, standard, heavy, and I say both challenge and oni.

Beginner
Basic/Light
Trick/Standard
Maniac/SSR/Heavy/Expert
Challenge/Oni

Yeah, I keeps it classic while catering to the new crowd.

Also, when mentioning foot ratings, I only name 6-9.

Genuine, Paramount, Exorbitant, Catastrophic (but I call it cata). Half the people I talk to using that language don't know what I am talking about. It's funny.

I generally say Beginner, Light, Standard, Heavy and Oni, often even for DDR games where it's different. I don't like to say Difficult for Standard since it's not that difficult for me, and I don't want to confuse the SuperNOVA Expert with the ITG Expert, which is harder - because in ITG, I say what the difficulty names really are there. I just like to use Oni in DDR since that's Japanese for devil.

I call them Beginner, Light, Standard, and Heavy. I do that because my first Ddr game was DIDDERMAX, and that's what they were called in it. I do, however, call them Basic Trick and Maniac if I'm playing an old one with those names. But I never call heavy Expert. I don't know why, I just don't. Maybe it's out of respect for ITG. Yeah, I'll just go with that.

Beginner
Light
Standard
Heavy
Oni

Regardless of the game (except for ITG obviously)

On another note, RandomUser's post reminds me of when people always used the term cata for 9s. Nobody ever said "a nine"; it was ALWAYS "a cata". Ah, memories.

Where I play, it's STILL always "a cata". I don't think I've ever said the term 'nine-footer' before, except when explaining to people what a 'cata' is. riiight.gif

Mine are:

Light
Standard
Heavy
Oni

Since that's how I was raised. Yep yep. Gotta love MAX2. E1.gif

I think I only used "cata" on third mix, and then it basically died off for me.

Before, I would say # footer.

Now I just call it the number difficulty it is.

"What is CSFILSM on heavy/expert?"

"It's a 9".

Beginner, Light, Standard, Heavy, and Challenge (if on a home pad)/Oni (if at arcade)

I'd prefer to ignore all of those and just go by foot rating though, making the song an x-footer, fill in the x.

BTW, I remember a thread almost exactly like this.

Yeah, I just say "an 8" or whatever, but sometimes, I add "-footer" online here for some strange reason....

I use Beginner, Basic, Trick, Maniac, Challenge. Sometimes I slip and use Light or Heavy, but for the most part it's that first set.

I don't go by the new SuperNOVA names (or renewed name in the case of Light-to-Basic). I still refer to each difficulty level, respectively, as Beginner, Light, Standard, Heavy, and Challenge. I'll use what's displayed on the screen if I'm talking to a new player for the sake of clarity, but in other cases, it remains the MAX-born names.
