Konami sent out a press release today announcing that the offices in Redwood City, CA will be consolidated into its newer campus located father south in El Segundo, CA. At least one representative of the KDE office in Redwood City has stated that the employees will be offered the opportunity to move down to the new Southern California location. For more details, please read the blog from Wired Magazine, which is linked at the beginning.

Just on a personal note, not only are the PR staff, marketing, product managers, and what not based in the Redwood City campus, but so are the stepchart creators for many of the home versions that have been released on American and European consoles and the testers for said home versions. Quite a few of the guys floating around these forums with a "Konami Staff" title are indeed from the Redwood City campus.

I would understand if many of those guys wouldn't want to move to SoCal, or if they wanted to do so, but couldn't due to financial or other obligations.

Any thoughts?

It's not that bad. Some stepchart creators needed to quit, anyway.

^True, but not most of the Universe guys. Those were kickass charts.

Ya do know that the same people who did Universe did UM4 and SN US and UM3 and Strike and so on and so on, yeah?

Tis a sad day here at Konami SF. The loss of jobs is never something to be seen positively, I think.

That being said, we're just staying positive throughout this transition.

Universe was chock full of mediocre jump-whoring charts.

Now now, let's be realistic. Universe did have those sort of charts, but it still wasn't like dominating a significant chunk.

And the UMs were notorious for freezewhoring, too.

Hopefully this turns out for the best.

Universe ain't full of perfect steps, either.

UM1 was the only mix that had freezewhoring, and it was shitty for many other reasons as well.

Man, knowing how many QA guys that'll be out of jobs once July hits... hearing the news today was like my own version of Va Tech (I know, horrible comparison, but you think of nearly a dozen friends finding out they're losing their jobs real soon, and you'll think it's pretty bad, too...)

I'm bummed my friends in Prod. Mgt./Production will likely relocate.

And Gamers Day will likely be in SoCal from here on out, not SF. Wah.

(and for the record, UM2 was THE pinnacle of KDEA stepcharts, I say. No personal bias, really.) E15.gif

I'm only about 10 minutes away from the El Segundo office, after all. XD

Funny thing. UM1 was the only mix done completely by KDEH...which no longer exists.

I like how this topic went to step charts...

Sucks to hear about that closing, I was just over there 3 weeks ago, and J.E. gave me a tour of the offices. Hell, I even crashed on one of the couches for a bit. Really lame that everyone there would have to move. disgust.gif

Uh, you do realize how many people are LOSING their jobs?

On the stepcharts note, DDR stepcharts are lazy and unoriginal anyway.

Tough break, good luck sorting this out.

Bah on your hate on step charts...at least they could make some decent freestyleable steps for some songs.

I'm bummed for my friends and close associates losing their jobs.

Some of the worst stepcharts in ITG were made by Chris Foy.
