I'm doing a big paper for school on DDR and how it brings people together, helps them meet new people, make new friends, etc..

The whole point of the paper is to write about something you know nothing about, and since I've never played DDR I thought I'd try it.

I'm going to try it tomorrow, and I'm kind of scared. Haha that's lame.. but I dont to look like a fool in front of everyone at the arcade. I should have practiced on home versions and stuff first, but oh well. I'll just have to go for it I suppose. E1.gif

Any advice?
Suggestions?
Opinions?

This thread could probably help you with your paper.

Don't get too worked up about your first attempts at the game. If you suck, don't worry; everyone sucked when they first started. Make sure you start on Beginner when you select difficulty.

If someone makes fun of you, stab them in the eye.

Don't feel shy playing on the machine. Once you've been playing a few hours, you won't mind being there in public anymore. And go with what Bjork said if someone puts you down for being a beginner or doing badly (if you do). Don't let it bother you if it happens (and it probably won't)

videoCWK, just wondering, but how did you get back? I see you used the little ² joke we had too.

Yeah, don't be shy on your first time. Choose Beginner as your difficulty, but if you practiced a little bit you would be able to try Light.

There's been alot of DDR essays lately.

I'd reccomend starting on easy lights songs, myself. From my experience it seems that beginner can be more of a handicap than a help later on if you decided to stay with it. Now, I'm not particularly good (at least, by these boards standards, 9s and about 1/3 of the 10's on ITG), but I'm a lot better than my friends who started about a month after I did. I started on Light (well, technically I did 10 seconds of a song on Standard first, but that didn't work too well) about a year ago, and my friends are spread between standard 5's and heavy 7's.

So yeah.. I went.. and I sucked.

I failed within like the first thirty seconds. I obviously do not have much coordination. I'll work on it though...

Strangely, I was nervous before I started.
