I emailed them about it, they said they didnt realize the bad pics and that maybe its a light effect. Lol

Yeah, because it's really easy to tear up strong metal with light. They could've come up with something better, like "That pad was one of the prototypes, we didn't need to use shiny new material because it wasn't going to go on sale"

By "light effect" they meant that the lighting/reflective qualities in the metal made it look strange.
Have you ever handled a sheet of perfectly smooth steel or titanium? (not that I did NOT say flat.)
They morph colours.

I think that's the zip ties holding the padding in place.
