|
|
Alright I got the whole post to fit!
Here is a full step-by-step tutorial on how to get the characters to dance in beginner mode just like in DDRMAX2 (for themes other than DDR Extreme)
1)Go to http://stepmaniathings.com/chars/downloads/bones+helper.zip and download it.
2)Unzip the files to the stepmania Characters folder.
3)Go to http://stepmaniathings.com/chars.php and download all the characters you want.
4)Unzip the files to the stepmania Characters folder.
5)Go into the graphics folder of a DDR Extreme theme (if you do not have one, download it at http://stepmaniathings.com/themes/downloads/ddrex.smzip) and look for the Common Fallback Background picture. It should look like a DDR machine without the screen. Copy the image to a folder somewhere else in your computer, and rename it EXACTLY: BeginnerHelper background. Then copy the image to all your theme graphics folders. If it says it will replace, click yes.
6)Go to Stepmania Tools and Package Exporter, and click on theme tools. Click on a theme you want to have the beginner helper and click Edit Metrics. Scroll Down all the way and click on the plus sign next to "Beginner Helper".
7)Six things should pop up:
PlayerAngle
Player2_X
Player1_X
Helper_Y
Helper_X
DancePadAngle
8)Click on each thing and enter these values in the white Value box. If the value box is gray and empty, click override and enter the value:
PlayerAngle: 40 (probably already is 40)
Player2_X: -554
Player1_X: -804
Helper_Y: 270
Helper_X: 999
DancePadAngle: 0
Click save and exit.
9)Go into stepmania and go to appearance options. Select the theme(s) you edited. Click exit. Go to Background options. For characters pick "default to random" or "select". For Beginner helper switch it to ON.
10)Go into graphic options and go down to the "Cel-Shaded Models" option. Switch it to ON. Click Exit.

Check that you have the characters in the right place. In the Stepmania Program Folder, double click on characters folder. Then in there there should be one folder for each character, and the bones files (you see DDRPC Common_dance001.bones, etc.)
If that is not the problem check in the background options menu Beginner Helper is ON and Characters are ON and in Graphic options Cel Shaded models is ON.
All else I can say is to make sure the metrics are correct and that you named the picture BeginnerHelper background, not Beginnerhelper background or beginnerhelper Background or anything else. If this still doesn't help then I don't know what I can do for you. |

VideoCWK, I'm sure you have to turn cel-shaded models on, because I think that was my problem when it wasn't working for me. I turned it on and all of a sudden it started working. So you can try, but I don't know if it will work.
And to the wise fool, I don't know anything about linux at all, so sorry. But if you can get to the SM program folder, go into the folder named Program, and there should be an SMzip icon that says 'smpackage' or 'Stepmania Tools and Package Exporter'. Again, I wouldnt know because I have Windows, and the majority of people do, so sorry if this doesn't work. |

The Wise Fool, you'll have to manually go into the theme folder and edit the metrics file. Depending on the text editor you use, find the line with [BeginnerHelper] in it and the lines you need to edit are below it. Then just change the cel-shading setting in stepmania.
stepmania is much better on linux compared to windows on the same system, at least in my experience. |

| Thanks, guys. I got it working. (Not that it matters, I only play heavy/challenge, the beginnerhelper is just a cool toy) |

I wasn't asking if it wouldn't work. But will it still look good with it off? |

| Again, I was saying that if you turned it off, it probably wouldn't look like anything at all, because it wouldn't be there. |

That wasn't sarcasm? Damn.
Do any of you know if there's anything I can do to keep my frame rate and have cel shaded models on? That is, without turning every other graphics setting down. I like my settings as they are. |

| VideoCWK, I'm pretty sure "cel shaded models" turns on the models, period. It doesn't cel shade the models, it just turns them on, and they happen to be cel shaded. |

Characters are models, right? I use them and cel shade is off. |

| You need to turn it on for beginner helpers. You don't need to for regular dancers. |
