I think that it is very stupid to have scores be in the ten millions because if someone asks you your score on your song, it's kind of hard to say..."Yea, umm, I got a 89,073,224 on Cartoon Heroes yesterday. Cant it just be like 10 points for each perfect, and not like 5000?? Please post what you think about the scores, and discuss what you think should be done about it, or if you like it the way it is.

The Fact of the matter is , depending on how many feet it is (7 feet,8 feet, etc.) is how many million it will go up to. All 10 footers will be 10000000, 9 footers will be 9000000, and so on. If you are talking to someone who plays DDR, then you can usually just say "Oh i got 79 on Cartoon Heroes, and it's a nine footer." If it's someone that doesn't play DDR, then tell them 79 million 800 thousand blah blah, just to show off thumb.gif Or you could say it the easy way and just say "I got a AA" blink.gif

You make a good point T33J4Y, but you said if you were to AAA a 10 footer you would get 10,000,000, but you would really get a 100,000,000. You were just 1 zero off, but it can make a big difference. (same thing on a 7 or 9 footer, you left off a zero)

Not many people pay attention to the numeric scores since a Perfect at the end is worth more than a perfect in the beginning (the steps are weighted), so if two people black flag a song, the person who gets their one Great later in the song gets a worse score than a person who flags it in the beginning, and would lose, even though they get the same amount of Greats.

That's why most serious players talk about scores in Missing DP/Great count, because it attributes most to a letter grade score and is more valuable when trying to chart someone against someone else. The only thing I can think of numbers being an important factor would be Oni (where the numbers are a lot smaller and people who are good at Oni mode know what a good score is for a particular course) and Nonstop mode, where people usually use the first two to four digits to describe their score since machine score is what determines rank on a chart.

Like, when I talk about my Cartoon Heroes score, I'd say, "Oh, I got 42 Full Combo" and most people would know I made the cut for AA, or I'd say, "My best was 24/2/1", or "I got 34 Missing DP" (since a Great counts as 1 Missing DP, a Good is 2, and a Boo is 6).

Nonstop courses are even higher.. My current high score on Hard1 nonstop (Euromix2) is over 360,000,000

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

The score system does sometimes leave something to be desired. It's tilted and leaned in such a way that it doesn't feel like it really does justice to the persons performance. A simpler way of describing the score could really do a lot for the game, especially if it was just the total dancepoints shown next to the total possible.

I got a 1249/1300 on Max 300 sounds like something understandable to a non-ddr player, and it also seems more accurate to a real player, who knows how the points system works.

Holy crap, this is so cool!! I had no idea that the point system was waited like this! Thanks Julie Q for helping everyone out thumb.gif Also, I do realize that most people do not pay attention to the score because most people who play DDR just tell each other the letter grade. But if a dude whoose never played before asked you your score... I mean come on, who can remember all those numbers. E19.gif

The only use I can think of for it is to estimate whether or not you hit the AA cutoff (usually, you can be 5mil or so off - i.e. 85mil on a 9 foot song) - and even then, it's just to temporarily hold you over until the results screen comes up.

In other words, it's worthless. Pay no attention to it. Use # of noncombos and it'll just be easier for everyone.

the only thing numeric score are good for is a few laughs when you get your phone number in the first seven digits. (true story on ordinary world)

Letter grades are good, but aren't so accurate. Say someone goes, "I AAed 1998!" Well, an AA is always an accomplishment, but the cut for 1998 is 46 Greats (or any combination of it, like 44 Greats and a Good, 36 Greats and a Miss, etc.), so when you AA 1998, you could have anything from 1 to 46 Greats. It's an even bigger gap when you A (an A on 1998 is anywhere from 47 to 131 Greats or Missing DP equivalent).

If you do scorekeeping at places like DD:Recall, you'll start to remember numbers like AA cutoffs and your personal scores really fast... I can name most of my personal bests off the top of my head for every song just because I'm just so busy trying to beat them. biggrin.gif

If someone who's never played wants to know my score, I usually just tell them the letter grade. But if I'm hanging out with more experienced players, I can usually give them the Missing DP count and it'd mean more to them than just a letter score (unless, of course, the letter grade is an AAA E7.gif ).
