Those are all tweaks/minor additions. Well, their impact may have been major in some cases (freezes, oni), but they still don't deviate much from the original idea. We're talking total reinvention of play mechanics here on a Beatmania IIDX level. Those two extra buttons totally changed the game.

New cabinet! Beg them to make a new cabinet! For the love of GOD, make a new cabinet!

Konami will most likely not release a new interor design. It would cost too much money for a new arcade and the arcades that already have several DDR machines would just have to spend more money on the new mix.

New Beat Mania: Big heavy deal.

New DDR: YES! The greatest video game series ever concieved is not cancelled after all! Bemani Forever!

I can accept the thing you said about "Beat Mania" but not after saying that DDR is "the greatest video game series."

3rd mix: Catastrophic songs were introduced and a nonstop mode also beat mania songs was introduced in this mix (hence the club mix)
4th mix: Tempo Changers were introduced in this mix, new grading system, changed from S's to A's, but A was full combo, AA was all perfects, Maniac-2 was introduced in this mix also.

Ska A Gogo was on 2nd Mix Link and Love This Feelin' was on 3rd+. Tempo changes started on 2nd mix. Also, Beatmania songs debuted on 2nd mix Link.

I have this feeling that DDR in Japan isn't over yet. Konami made it clear that at least the home versions will continue for as long as fans want them.

But as for the arcade units I believe they're done for. They've needed a hardware revision for a long time now. I actually considered DDR MAX the "Version Two Deluxe" of DDR. DDR MAX was a fresh start within the old series and the freeze arrow did change gameplay like the two extra keys in IIDX, just not as much. And starting with MAX the series jumped to the PS2 just like IIDX.

DDR Extreme does feel like DDR: Final. 1998, Dance Dance Revolution, <former extra stages> 'Survivor', 'The Legend' of Max, and tons of ultra popular crossovers from other Bemani games like in 5-key the final. Heck, they have plenty of songs in common. Oh, and they brought back Butterfly. That right there signals the apocalypse.

Though DDR Extreme has two messages: "We're starting over!" and "Thanks for all Dance Dance Revolution players!" The first one signals DDR DX and the second one signals the end. It could be either or both.
