I talked to a guy who works at a company selling games/equipment.

I mentioned that my dance pad would occasionally cut out. The only thing that gets it to respond again is to wiggle the end that goes into the PS2. It's less than a millimetre wiggle room, if that.

He said I should buy a PS2 extension cable (which he sells, though I've never seen it in stores), then cut the original cord and solder in the new one. On the theory that something's wrong with the actual end you stick into the PS2, of course.

I have a Logic3 metal mat.

I'm guessing I'm not the only one to have experienced that kind of problem?
