So, I like syndicating all frequently updated content which is interesting to me so that I can see it all in one or two places.

One thing that I think is really simple for PHBB is rss for all new posts. That would be awesome.

Also, would be possible to have thread subscriptions where we could get instant notification of new replies or a daily digest etc. Seems like I remember this being a somewhat stock feature for phpbb as well. It's just a small extension of notification of replies.

That is all.

Well, we have email subscription, but it's totally broken and when someone uses it the thread ends up getting wrecked when people try to post.

It would be cool if we could do this stuff, but the forums here are pretty much just a great mess of code, from what I hear, and it's unlikely that they'll try to pile anything else on.

I know nothing about either phpBB or RSS; this is just going on what I've heard.

What's wrong with e-mail subscription?

Is it possible to subscribe without replying to a message?

Doesn't it randomly start spitting out "Failed sending e-mail" errors?

No. It spits them out when there's a problem. And in previous cases, we've fixed each of the problems.

There's a little link underneath the last post in a thread, on any page, that says:
"Watch this topic for replies"

Give 'er a click E13.gif.

That link changes to one that will also unsubscribe you from a thread, if you've already subscribed.

Ah, I see. a bit out of the way there.

Even so. Subscription without rss is fairly shallow. If I have to click "Posts since last visit" to see new posts, then I can check old posts too.

edit:
After getting my first subscription email, I thought I'd throw another suggestion up here. A stripped down version of the post I'm being notified of.

Just a thought.
