This is probably not how most fans of In The Groove thought things would play out, but this press release officially announces the proposed settlement of Konami v. Roxor et al, and part of the terms of the settlement are that Konami will be the owner of the In The Groove franchise. No word has been said yet as to how this will affect the future of the franchise.

Please note that Konami is only acquiring the intellectual property rights to In The Groove, and they have not acquired Roxor Games itself.

Also, no word yet on how this settlement affects the codefendants in Konami v. Roxor et al, MadCatz and RedOctane.

Doesn't make a bit of difference to me, but the anti-Konami fanboys just got raped.

To say the least, this is a very interesting, but not entirely unexpected development.

Now, let the unfounded speculation and panic about the future of In The Groove begin...

Oops, I posted this headline like a minute after you did, Cutriss!

Anyway, this is a pretty interesting development. Let the speculation begin!

...begin? My friend, that ship sailed as soon as the very not-specific e-mail saying "a company bought ITG2" came out, if you've checked certain other sites.

Yeah, that was me that started it on ITGfreak, although I had no idea that we would find out so quickly about who acquired In The Groove. I guess I shouldn't have sat on the email that I had, but maybe its good because we didn't have months to speculate on who it was.

I have to say that I'm a little worried about the future of In The Groove, although the email that I got and posted on ITGfreak said that ITG3 would be coming out because they said I could still get an upgrade for my machine, its just that Roxor wouldn't be releasing it so they couldn't give it to me free. If that makes any sense to anybody, I still think that ITG3 will be coming out.

I also wonder if Konami realized that Roxor would release the R21 patch and what they think about that. I would say they probably didn't approve it and that it was a last ditch effort by Roxor to still keep things in the hands of the community rather than in Konami's hands.

I'm a little afraid of Konami "messing up" ITG, but at the same time, they have shown that they still know what they are doing with Supernova.

Very interesting and it will be interesting to see where they take things from here. Maybe we will be able to get a "boxor" from konami to change our ITG machines into DDR machines?!?!?!?

In before 60,000 "Pandemonium 300"-type jokes. E15.gif

This is interesting...hopefully Konami will keep ITG the way it is. I don't doubt that they will.

I hope Roxor put patents on cel, metal, robot, and rolls. That would be really funny.

(For all you people who will tell me im retarded because I left out mines and vivid, vivid basically is ddr arrows, and mines were in stepmania before ITG.)

HELL YES.

Since Roxor is still in business, I don't have to worry about the future of the Tux Racer series.

Tuxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Racerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The ITGFreak thread discussing this is truly lol-worthy so far. There are one or two sensible people in it, and everyone else is having a fit.

Nah, ITG's not gone. If Konami's smart they'll keep it going. However; I would like it if there was a merger...that'd own.

...Pandemonium 300? Wouldn't that be EASIER?

Allow me to crush any last hopes you guys have of ITG continuing:

(cross posted from Tyma, DDRUK:)
Quote:
Konami did NOT win control of the 'In The Groove' copyright, the game code, it's songs, anything like that. Konami do not own the In The Groove franchise, they simply own the sole right to produce arcade games which resemble DDR / ITG's technical setup and gameplay elements.

Roxor can still produce dancing games, but have to think outside of the box. They cannot produce anything which resembles DDR.

By all reasonable logic, In The Groove 3 is canceled. All future PC / console releases are presumed to be canceled, as Roxor recently released gave away In The Groove 2 to all owenrs of the PC version, a few weeks before this final verdict was reached.

Finally.. Konami did something right.. Maybe now good stuff will happen for itself so it can get rid of all the bad karma it's been getting. Maybe better games in the future at that.
