I am making a support beam for my CF. I found a design online for one and it looks like it is made out of PVC pipe. Here's the link to the topic.

I am wondering if PVC pipe is durable enough to hold my weight. I wanna make sure that it won't bend or snap or anything. So, is it good to use?

Wow, that looks awsome.

I was planning on building my own bar (which I never did) at one point, I was going to use metal pipes. I wouldn't recommend PVC, but I don't know how it would work for sure.

pvc should be hard and sturdy enough....although it may bend slightly after vigourous use. looks really cool though.

metal is probably your best bet though.

Yeah, but it would cost alot of money. And my dad wants this to be cheap. So, how long would PVC pipe last?

Okay. I'll use piping. By the way, what are the dimensions for the bar? I wanna know how tall it is and what the diameter of the bar is.

Well, the bar is 1 1/2" thick, 18" wide from the outside of one leg to the outside of the other. And it is supposedly 36" tall, but I know the one at my arcade and itg dedicab bars are taller. I made my bar about 38 1/2 - 39" tall, and it's a perfect height for me nerd.gif

PVC isn't a good idea. You will need a 2" minimum to support an adult and that will not be an accurate simulation of the arcade experience. If someone is telling you that metal is too expensive, they are probably high. Black pipe is actually cheaper than PVC if you take into account the primer and adhesive required to get it to stick together.

looks like something you would find in a kindergarten classroom....very cute! as for pvc pipes holding weight...i doubt it. I havent tried it but my friend tried it once and it broke in about a week...haha

Anyways, he has these things called "omegos"(or something like that) that are basically really thick PVC pipes for kids that you can make cars and such out of. We found them in his basement and they were REALLY old, but he made a bar(very easily too) out of them and it works like a dream. I can put nearly all my weight on it(i weight 144) and it holds up. As long as you dont weigh over 180, they'd work fine. Try finding some on ebay or something. Its some kids toy from the 80s.

The problem is, I DO weigh over 180... frown.gif

I'll use black piping then.
