I am getting pretty good at DDR, i know most of the steps to Drop The Bomb and i always get the feeling that i want to just spin around whilst playing, i am now a basic freestyler for some some songs that i a familiar with. I can do some songs without looking for a bit too?

Is anyone else starting to get urges to turn around and show off yet or can you remember when you first did??

Well i have been playing pretty much since the game arrived to the U.S. and i sometimes will practice at looking at the screen as little as possible but when your only 13 you don't have much pocket change and a chance to get out to the arcade.... Also I have soft mats... so i can't but i feel that urge to try it E4.gif however i am preparing to counter act it by attempting actually building pads identical to arcade in almost every aspect with the trick bar because i hate how i have to practice a bit whenever i move from arcade to home to arcade....

Today when I was playing DDR I was getting these urges to freestyle every song I played whether I know the song or not. Even on heavy if they were hard I didn't care.

Yeah, I've been wanting to freestyle too. I was just doing Twilight Zone on Light cuz it was simple. I was posing like the guy in Afrnova, and swinging my arms around. I spun a lot and made myself dizzy. I'm currently trying to freestyle Put Your Faith in Me on Heavy. I'm gettin a little used to it. E4.gif

I spin around quite a lot...on light and some standard songs. riiight.gif I'm just not comfortable enough on heavy yet. At home, I let my arms go and my eyes close, but I'm not ready to try any of that stuff at the arcade yet.

To tell the truth, I haven't seen too many people freestyle in my time. My friend is developing a little bit of a routine for "Speed Over Beethoven", with the spins and a few hand plants (that shouldn't even really be considered hand plants, because the whole weight of your body doesn't even go into it). When I was vacationing in Toronto, I saw one guy try a Matrix Walk and fall off, then proceed to be cornered by two workers).

But that's about the best I've ever seen. I'm dying to learn how to do a proper knee drop, or do a good hand plant, but I'm just not flexible enough, or versatile enough for any of it. Lately, I'm wishing my mom didn't let me drop out of gymnastics when I was five, so I might be able to do a decent hand stand every once and a while.

I heard of this form of martial arts that's been newly introduced to the America's...I forget the name of it now, but it was basically fighting to music...My first thought was, "Wow, that stuff would really help somebody freestyle!" But I'm one of those people whose knees don't work right, and I know I'm just not cut out to freestyle.

E2.gif So sad...

I've had numerous urges to freestyle I Was The One, but every time I think about making a routine, I remind myself how stupid a geeky, white/Chinese mutt looks like when he freestyles.

That usually puts me in my place. laugh.gif

I honestly canNOT think of 2 songs that aren't 10 footers that I haven't at least tried to dance to yet (of course, not counting the songs I haven't done ever).

I enjoy f-ing around that much. MAD fun.

I think you might be referring to Kapueta (that's probably spelled VERY wrong...but you get the idea...) which is a form of martial arts that looks like dancing...originated in Jamaica I think...something about martial arts being banned and people creating it to defend themselves with but disguising it as dancing so as not to be arrested...and it's been around in America for a while...just watch the movie "Only the Strong" it's pretty much entirely about it...and it's a pretty good action movie too...

On topic...I don't do much that could be considered freestyling...I'd lose my coordination if I tried...

most (almost all) the songs on ddr dont appeal to me as "dancable" songs. freestlying? eh, no. you look silly enough playing it, you'd look even more silly trying to dance to it.

It's called capoeira, and to the best of my knowledge, it was first practiced by slaves and called dancing, so they could rebel against their masters, or so I've heard.

And yes, Only The Strong was a great movie. thumb.gif

It's Brazilian.

The origin was from slavery. The slaves were not allowed to be taught how to fight. So there created Capoeria as a dance, using music and a circle. High flying kicks and somersaults to the music all looked like a dance. Even the terms used were hidden (fighting was called "playing").

Doing this stuff on DDR, usually a bad idea because of the bar.

I remember first freestyling to "Kung Fu Fighting" on heavy just cuz the steps were boring and slow. I was kicking in the air and spinning as often as possible. Prolly a pretty typical FS... riiight.gif

I've been PA'ing since I first started playing but now I'm getting that urge to dance rather than shoot for points.

i'm currently going to try to make a freestyle for a ddr "party" [more of a gathering] with the song breakdown and it's going to be hard since soft pads don't have a trick bar. But i did come up with an original move for a section near the end. I also got an end thing but i need to come up with more in order for it to look "freestyle". my other concern is am i going to freak out with being the only guy with about 12 girls watching me when i am used to playing by myself in my own home..... erm.gif

That's all I used to do. Spins... and it got pretty boring. And I looked like an idiot. But I got way better now. I do more...I added more weapons to my FS arsenal. I actually do good. FS'ing is something you just gotta get used to, and also practice helps.

Oh, I've always had the urges but I can't seem to FS and have my back at the screen unless it was an Edit of my own or somethin easy. I do a hand slap here and there, sometimes knee drops. I want to, but I suck.

It's fun to frick around sometimes because I already know I can get decent scores on the songs that I play.

Usually, I just shuffle my feet around to sort-of slow BPM songs, like Spin the Disc, Air, the beginning of Love This Feeling, the slow tempo change on When The Saint Goes Marching, etc. Nothing too fancy, I guess.
